USA Gorgo 4K UHD (1961)

https://vinegarsyndrome.com/collecti...products/gorgo

Quote:
This special limited edition 2-disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray set comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Matt Frank) and is limited to 6,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

When an underwater volcanic eruption tears up the sea bed off the coast of Ireland, two treasure hunters make the discovery of a lifetime when they encounter a gigantic prehistoric monster that’s been unleashed from the earth’s crust. After capturing the beast, the pair transport the creature down to London where it’s given the name of “Gorgo” and put on display to an avid public. Little do they realize that Gorgo is just an infant, and that his exponentially larger mother is about to emerge from the depths to avenge the capture of her offspring. As Gorgo’s mother begins her advance on the British capital, not even the considerable might of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces can stop her colossal devastation!

An international co-production between the United Kingdom, United States, and Ireland, visual effects pioneer Eugène Lourié’s (The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, The Giant Behemoth) GORGO - often referred to as the “British Godzilla” - was one of the first, and arguably one of the best, giant monster films to follow in the wake of Japan’s sci-fi landmark. Between its astonishing, special effects-laden climax, which sees Gorgo’s mother wreak fiery destruction on the streets of Central London, and its unique and unusual ending, GORGO quickly solidified its place in the sci-fi canon, spawning numerous comic book adaptations and spin-offs which further expanded the “Gorgoverse”. Now, newly restored in 4K from its untouched-for-decades original camera negative by the monster maniacs at Vinegar Syndrome, GORGO bursts up from the depths in its worldwide UHD debut, loaded with a fittingly gargantuan array of extras, both old and new.

directed by: Eugène Lourié

Wow. Previous home video releases have been rough, to say the least. This could/should be a revelation in comparison to what we've had up until now.

So it’s only the slipcase edition that’s limited to 6,000 units?

Ordered. Any 4k kaiju release is a must get/own. I have to admit I'm stunned this is coming out but happy as heck.

It'll likely ship near the end of the month and be in your hands in early August. Vinegar Syndrome titles aren't specifically dated (beyond a general month) until they get a wider retail release a few months later.

You never know. The Invaders from Mars 4k sold really well so anything can happen. You're probably spot on but selfishly I hope it goes fast so we can get more of these types of movies in 4k. Anyone know (typically) how early VS announces their moves prior to release date?

Generally, they're announced the month of release.

May and November are their marquee months, with titles announced further in advance as part of flash pre-orders. They'll also announce some key titles months in advance (such as the Prophecy UHD collection for November) to goose subscriptions.

But more typically, a title will be announced on the first of the month, and it'll ship near the end of that same month.

I’m a VS newb. If I get this on pre-order and buy another film that’s currently in stock, will they hold the in-stock item until the pre-order film ships (which is what I would prefer) or will they ship separately?

Ship together. I order from UK and always order more than one due to the cost of shipping. I ordered 4 for there halfway to Black Friday including Primal Rage which was already available. They all came together.

I'm not even that fond of this one, and I'm glad Vinegar Syndrome is handling this one, and not VCI again!

I'm a huge, huge fan of this movie. One of my favorite kaiju films. This is an absolute dream release. Not only the glut of extras and an actually good looking (from the trailer at least) transfer but on UHD?? Instant pre-order.

I spoke with the cover artist Matt Frank. He worked on the outer and inner art (I'm assuming the inner will be used for the slipcover within the slipbox). Surprised VS doesn't have a picture of the inner slip art on their site.
He also said he designed a anatomy poster though I don't see one listed as being included.

This was a instant order for me. So glad this movie got something better than VCI.
