Between this and Natural Born Killers, sure looks like WB and Paramount opened the floodgates for third-party 4K's (beyond Paramount and Kino's deal).
Wouldn't be surprised if The Dead Zone, Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, or other Paramount titles with 4K scans end up getting on disc. |

This. I will be pleasantly surprised if My Bloody Valentine and Natural Born Killers have the superior director's cuts on UHD, but Shout have proven thus far that they just don't care.

Not any real reason why the unrated cut can't be presented in 4K as I believe the unrated footage was sourced from the original negative for the previous Blu-ray release. So either they were able to source the original negative trims or the footage was always part of the original negative and the cuts were made on subsequent elements for theatrical exhibition.
The last time I watched the SF Blu-ray, I only noticed maybe two or three very brief snippets of print-sourced material so it's not like entire shots or scenes are sourced from lower-quality elements. |
