Default Question about the crappy 360

With their HD-DVD drive add on, they finally were able to watch High-Def movies on their Beloved X-box. But I have a question. If I remember correctly, is it still not able to output a 1080p movie? I thought it didn't have an HDMI port, and I thought without that, you can't watch a 1080p signal....

So do the new premium ones. Not sure about the core.

the more interesting thing on the table about having a 360 for a high-def movie player is whether the 360 will function when you want to watch a movie. inviting everyone over to see 3 red lights blink isn't that grand

Default Elite model outputs 1080p

Of course the elite model outputs 1080p in HD-DVD and upscales DVD to 1080p as well through HDMI. Whats so crappy about the 360 anyway? It does better graphics than the PS3.

As much as I enjoy my 360, the PS3 has shown detail on some games in ways the 360 has yet to match. But, to stay on topic, I just researched this the other day, the 360 Elite will pass 1080p over the HDMI. I couldn't find anything definitive on whether or not it supports lossless audio. I don't think it does, but I don't want to say for certain.

The 360 HDMI does support lossless but it's only 2.0. It can only output 5.1 via optical.

It depends on the games actually. Call of Duty was rated better on 360 than the Wii and PS3. There are other games that look best on the PS3 and there are other games that look best on the Wii(can't believe it very much) but just look at the comparisons. I'll try to find you a link to where I seen it.

Cool links! I got COD3 on Xbox based on numerous reviews saying it was better than the PS3, and it looks like they were definitely right! Too bad, compared to COD2, the game sucked, IMO. Good find though, you don't see many comparisons like that.

I think any of the xbox 360's can output 1080p over VGA but as for component it's only 1080i. Via HDMI which is only the xbox 360 Elite then yes 1080p.

It also should be mentioned that whilst we could argue about the sound from the 360 all day however the best way to look at that aspect is that it's like trying to watch a film in the middle of a wind tunnel test centre.. the noise during films is just too much unless your lucky enough to be about 20ft away from the unit.

I still use my 360 add-on to play some HDDVDs that I can't get on Blu-ray. Have only bought one all year (Heroes) and had Hot Fuzz given as a gift. I definitely favor Blu-ray as superior technology and for the ability to get lossless via HDMI to my Denon, but won't let myself be deprived of the best titles.

With a good deinterlacing solution, I don't really believe in all the marketing hype of 1080p over 1080i as any fixed pixel display is progressive by nature. This is specific from display to display (or VP for those few of us), of course... but as long as one's not pulling a zyber and pontificating after using a 720p with known issues, it's ok.

The biggest issue with the 360 is the lack of ability to output high def audio (being stuck with legacy) and then the noise of the 360 itself. The audio update somewhat, though not totally helped the former. The latter is very distracting and disatisfying in quiet dialog scenes.

I've been wanting a Toshiba, but have been afraid of severe buyers remorse given their history of plumetting pricing.... I can appreciate depreciation of cutting edge tech, but I'd feel like a major heel if I see it down 50-100 bucks within a couple months. 9-12 months ok... but 1 or 2? no way.

haha yes. I listen to ALL of my movies pretty loudly because I like to think my bedroom is a theater, so I am unaware of this sound until there is a quiet scene in the movie and then all you can hear is the the jet plane 8ft away.

yep yep lol. Special attention to where they're doing the scene of struggling between the 2 guys over the rifle.... it looks like Nintendo made the soldier appear to be smiling... guess they still want that kind of audience.
