A 3D film coming from Dekanalog, hmmmm.

They've released mostly foreign films. If I had to guess, we'll be getting a foreign 3D film.

There's plenty to choose from if they decide to release something that already has a 3D release but without any English localization. If so, I'm hoping for something like Behind the Walls or Darker Than Night.

Or it could be something completely unreleased on 3D disc so far.

Ooo, this is exciting. Dekanalog has released a pretty wide variety of Asian and European features, mostly dark comedy and horror. I'll post some of my most wanted unreleased 3D horror films that require no major restoration:

1. The Devil and the Beauty (1969), South Korea - 3D DCP with Korean Film Archive, unreleased on physical media. Native 3D restored by Filmmuseum München with KOFA, missing one eye of first two reels. Third South Korean 3D film ever, made by Lee Yong-min, one of their most remembered B-movie horror directors. This is so ripe for an important, historical Blu-ray 3D release.

2. Mad Sad Bad (2014), South Korea - 3D DCP with CJ Entertainment, unreleased on physical media. Native 3D anthology from Ryoo Seung-wan, Kim Tae-yong, and Han Ji-seung and the Korean Academy of Film Arts. Mostly compelling thriller/drama, there are light horror themes in each segment, including
[Show spoiler]murder
, zombie romance, and spirits. Probably the best movie on this list.

3. The House That Never Dies (2014), China - 3D DCP, unreleased on physical media. Native 3D, Mainland China box office record-breaking haunted mansion film with Francis Ng.

4. Paura (2012), Italy - 3D DCP, only released on Italian 2D DVD with no English subs. Native 3D torture porn by the Manetti Brothers.

5. The Entity (2015), Peru - 3D DCP, received a very limited, impossible to attain Peruvian Blu-ray 3D. Also on 2D DVD with Film Movement (so maybe not available to license). Native 3D found footage film.

6. Necrophobia (2014), Argentina - 3D DCP, received an Argentinian SBS 3D DVD, English subs only on 2D version. Modern day giallo film, scored by Claudio Simonetti.

7. Spell (2014), Thailand - 3D DCP, only released on Thai 2D DVD. Native 3D erotic horror film.

I post in the OCN thread and got a response from an OCN rep... I'll take whatever it is but I hope it's not a doc;

I agree, it's mostly likely an Asian film but I was too lazy to search for more obscure 3D films. Great list, all of those sound up their alley. Maybe if their first release is super successful, we can keep them going for more.

I could be wrong, but that seems like a major release that Vinegar Syndrome (or Severin) would do themselves, with the help of 3DFA, because it would require major scanning and restoration. I think Dekanalog will release something that they can just license and drop onto a disc. Nothing in their catalog so far was produced prior to 2004.

If any of you need a new or back-up 3D Blu-Ray player, I suggest you check the local thrift stores. I picked up 3 of them yesterday, in addition to a pile of 2D players.

So no news for those Indian 3D movies that never had a blu-ray 3D?

Indian cinema is limited to theater and streaming only at this point. Don't know any boutique distributors who are interested in licensing Indian films. Japan and Germany released a couple of Indian Blu-rays in 2021, and the last domestic Blu-ray release from India itself was 2020. There may be more recent DVD releases, but I don't care to research that.

The original Mas Negro que la Noche (1975) is on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome in their Mexican Gothic box. I wasn't super fond of the 2014 remake (although it has decent 3D), but I think that's a great guess for this title.

I really don't understand why those movies are being held hostage and not being sold on blu-ray 3D. Looks like India doesn't like money or something. I don't see they being embarrassed due to their bollywood take on their movies since they have their movies everywhere in the world to watch. If they're embarrassed of movies being in 3D then they shouldn't, since by the reviews and comments I read here in the forum, these are good to great in 3D.

I hope that’s true; they release a lot of box sets, which I’m sure most of us would be happy with.

Box sets in the US massively increase the odds of getting a scratched disc which is a pain to exchange - at least with individual releases each one can be dealt with separately. But that is looking like what's going to happen with the Owensby titles, a box from Severin. If only it could have been Vinegar Syndrome...

I am curious as to what Dekanalog are putting out though.

To date, I’ve had only good experiences with Severin titles. They’re expensive though if you have to import, so a box set offers greater value for me, particularly as I probably wouldn’t buy all the Owensby films if they released separately. At least Shout Factory haven’t got them!

I had to return a Severin UHD the other day, big circular scratches. But yes, at least it's not Shout Factory releasing these. That would be a tragedy.

I wish they were being 'held hostage', because then at least there'd be some hope that between the lot of us we could raise the ransom!

You'd think that in a country with over a billion people, there'd be just enough who cared enough to support such releases. It need only take a few thousand collectors to support ongoing limited releases.

I don't comprehend why those films are being withheld from release on Blu-ray 3D. It seems as if India has no interest in making money or something. I don't see why they would feel ashamed of their Bollywood-style movies being presented in 3D, considering they distribute their movies worldwide for viewing. If they are concerned about the quality of 3D versions, they shouldn't be, as the reviews and comments I read on this forum indicate that these movies are highly praised in 3D.
