Good to know, and if its Bale's best performance I've got to see it, since I thought his last best performace was Equilibrium followed by batman.

I kinda thought Crowe was just playing Crowe as a gun fighter but I thought Bale actually played the PART.

You'll have to let me know what you think after you see it.

Agree. Bale's best performance thus far is Equilibrium. And this is coming from me, when Batman begins is one of my favorite movies of all time.
I was a bit hesitant on 3:10 due to Crowe (downhill since gladiator, hated a beautiful mind), but now i think i'll give it a gander.

I liked Tombstone and Unforgiven better than this one.
4/5 for this one.

From the looks of the not even half full theater, I would say between the kids going back to school and the fact that its a western, it will do better on disc than in theaters.

The next newer movie that will sell huge on BD exclusively will be Superbad IMO.

I went Saturday afternoon and we had a packed house. Even though it's only done about 14 million for the weekend, that was on par with other westerns and met the high end of expectations.

I saw it Sunday afternoon at 4:20. I thought it was quite good. Bale and Crowe are both great actors. The action was fun and there was some good humor mixed in. My theater was packed too, and since it was at such an odd time of day, I would have to figure this movie has done pretty well so far.

It won the weekend. $14.1 million. Good news for Lionsgate (although it did cost $55 million )

I saw this as soon as it came out, and I thought it was terrific!! I thought both Crowe and Bale gave really good performances, and it was awesome to see Peter Fonda in such a cool character role. Well worth the money!!

I probably shouldn't open my mouth, but I don't think that it was all that great. It had a great cast and it was entertaining most of the way through, but the thing that bothered me most was when Byron McElroy (Peter Fonda) got shot in the stomach at close range (this movie takes place in 1800's) and then after loosing lots of blood, had a vet pull the bullet out and then 10 minutes later, he was perfectly fine. OK.... I suppose I will need to rent the original to compare.

Isn't that the way it always works when a vet removes a bullet from a person in a movie? In most movies, even when a vet isn't involved, the removal of the bullet seems to immediately repair all damage done by the gunshot.

I really enjoyed the movie. But there are scenes, especially at the end of the movie, that strained the otherwise realistic feel of the west.

Hmm on a side note as well, it seems that lionsgate films are getting better and better lately, this is a good sign, especially since they are Blu exclusive.

My brother saw this before me and said he'd give it a 9.5/10 which I thought was pretty high. When I got out of the theater I called him and said "You only gave that a 9.5?!?" There's not many movies I would give 10/10 (maybe 5 or 6) but this one is one of them. (Take into account I've been on a pretty big western kick lately).

This was an excellent movie, I would give it a 9 out of 10, and would say it's the best western I have seen since Tombstone.

A film starring Russell Crowe is reason enough for celebration. His mult-faceted portrayal of a really bad man is absolutely brilliant, right up there with his other great body of work. This film is a western masterpiece.
