This article caught my eye, hope it's of interest to the many UHD fans here at Blu-ray.com.

“The way a film camera records light onto its emulsion… That’s as close as you can get to the way the eye sees.” –Christopher Nolan

OPPENHEIMER. Shot on KODAK 35mm & 65mm.

Only in theaters 07 21 23.

Yep, 35mm confirmed by Kodak as well.

Quote:
Rumor has it that one of the cameras Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema attempted to use was a Photo-Sonics 35mm 4C high-speed rotary prism camera, which is capable of 2,500 frames per second. If a shot requires a faster camera, then creatives must rely on a rotary prism camera. The Photo-Sonics 16mm E10 is one such camera that can capture up to 10,000 fps while still using film, making it a great solution for slowing down motion to a near standstill.

Unfortunately, the camera is unable to capture great footage at such a high rate for a feature film. Instead, sources tell NFS that the cameras used on Oppenheimer maxed out at 150 fps. The pyro work on the film was done at a substantial scale due to the limits of in-camera magic. There was some post-manipulation of some shots, but there seem to hardly be VFX effects done to emphasize the greatness and magnitude of the explosion. Then again, this could be another situation like the VFX shots in Top Gun: Maverick.

Nolan on UHD is such a wildcard. Goes out of his way for film and then goes out of his way to digitally abuse it after for the home market. Just wierd.

Both of the IMAX theaters I used to work at don't need to be upgraded. Both booths are Big enough. I've already used the big platters. Can't wait to see this film on film and 4k. Should be INSANE!!!

Apparently there already is an Oppenheimer mini TV-series from 1980:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078037...tt_sims_tt_i_3

I did not know about that before. Rated at 8.3 on IMBD which is generally a very good rating.

I wonder if the story is similar to in this movie. Will probably be hard to get hold of the mini TV-series anyway in good quality though.

It’s about the same person so there will be similarities. Unless Nolan decides to completely make stuff up or the miniseries did.
