Default The start of better Blu prices??

I'm still a little surprised at the aggressive sales by a lot of retailers for Watchmen and Coraline this week... $20.29 and $19.29 at Fry's, respectively. And Amazon selling both for $20.49, $20.77, $21.99 at BB, etc.

My question is this:

Are we starting to see the end of $28 new releases? I mean, these aren't catalog titles.... Watchmen may be the biggest BD release of the year, its a 3-disc set, and we can buy it the first week for only 20 bucks? Just seems like the kind of movie that they wouldn't give away like that. Is this a sign that Blu-ray is finally mainstream enough to get decent price points?

I doubt that, considering for the LONGEST time we still saw $25 DVD releases. It'll be quite awhile before $25- new releases become common.

I think the prices of Blu's in 2009 much better than the price of DVD's were in 2000,(the same timespan)

I doubt it. I remember when "I am Legend" came out on blu, I picked it up day 1 at Wal-Mart for only $18. I thought that was the beginning, NOT! Also the absolute screwing that they are giving us on Catalog titles is ridicules! I preordered Braveheart and Gladiator from Amazon for almost $28 each.

I know that I do not help the cause by purchasing at these prices but the studios will stick it to us for as long as possible.

Actually you could get Watchmen for $17.00 and change on DeepDiscount with DVDTALK or BLUE at checkout!! That's a steal and a half!!!!!!!

I beg to differ on the biggest BD of the year. There's a lot more exciting and awesome titles coming out. Braveheart and Gladiator being two people have been waiting on for a few years.

I think he meant new release to date. Up, Transformers 2 and Harry Potter 6 will all give a good run at being the #1 blu-ray sold this year.

Braveheart and Gladiator will be big releases for members here, but as far as total blu sales, Watchmen will be among the best sellers (along with Up, Transformers 2, and Harry Potter 6.. like wolverine said).

it's the natural progression of things I think....

HOWEVER, I was listening to a clip being played that was describing "COMPACT AUDIO DISCS" and how they were going to be the "Next great thing" etc...

They said CD players were $1,000 (at the time, that was a lot of cash) and the price of the discs was a hefty "$17" each..... well... if you think about the fact that this was 20 years ago or whatever it was, and the fact that a new CD will set you back about $15 still..... very little has happened with the prices of CDs over the years..... fortunately it seems that people find much more replay value in music compared to film.

Of course DVDs had a higher MSRP in the late 90's, and a new DVD still carries a $20+ MSRP now...... so more deals are likely going forward..... but drastically lowered MSRPs probably aren't likely.

Also keep in mind that Warner has knocked some of its catalogue releases' MSRP's to $16.99. That's how Amazon has been able to sell Searchers for $7.99 and the Gauntlet for $5.99, briefly (Body Heat is great, too: B&M 9.99 without any discount). I wouldn't be surprised to find a ton of Blus at this price point by Black Friday/Holiday. Hopefully other studios might follow suit (Lions Gate is getting there).

Nope, not Asian... Unless I'm watching a Jackie Chan movie, then I feel Asian by association.

I just hope this trend of newish blu-rays going on sale for $15-20 shortly after they come out doesn't go away when blu-ray's dominating the market. I know I'm going to be buying these suckers for a long time to come and it'd be nice if I didn't have to pay $25-30 at B & Ms so often.
