I just got a "new to me" car and want to let the audio system be the first upgrade I do to it. The front and rear doors require 6.5" speakers and the front doors have tweeters in which I will probably disable with the new speakers. The sub/amp are taken care of. I have a 10" Reference MB Quart sub with a 600w Rockford amp. Very good sounding sub, not overpowering.
The amp I want to put in for the door speakers is this: MB Quart 1000w DSC4125 I know it is the Discus series but that is a hard price to beat for a 4 channel 1000 watt amp. I'm not looking to go crazy insane on the speakers but here is what I'm thinking about right now... Infinity: KAPPA 653.7I | 6020CS | Kappa Perfect Alpine: SPX-17REF Polk: MM6501 I'm trying to keep it at $500 or less if at all possible but I know getting something like the Kappa Perfects would be worth spending a little bit extra to get. I'm not looking for a perfect audio system, just something that will sound good but definitely not cheap. Thanks for any help ![]() |

I am NOT very big into Mobile audio..... but I always thought Blaupunkt made good speakers..... I think they're pretty affordable.... if they're still making them!!!! I bought some for a car back in the 90's, and thought they were a great improvement to the stock ones...... I never had a separate Amp/Sub though.... I don't listen to anything loud in the car.....
With my jeep now, I'm thinking about getting some after-market speakers .... I bought my Jeep new in 2005 and the speakers barely get loud enough to hear over the wind/tire noise when the top is down and the doors are off when I'm on the highway....... |

When I was a kid, 18 - early 20's, all I did was spend my money on Alpine, Coustic, Boston, Rockford Fosgate and the list goes on.
Remember, this was 18 yrs ago. The first break in I experienced cost me all my tapes. ![]() The second cost me CD's and a portable cd-player with cassette adapter. The third cost me everything replaced from the second and some speakers. The fourth cost me everything except the car (and I had $400 dollar alarm). Man, ever after all the limo tinted windows were smashed execpt one, and I had the factory stereo back in the car, I was broken into, just to see if I was hiding anything. Needless to say, I lost touch with car audio stuff because the crooks just kept coming. I guess what I'm saying is, good luck with that. The punks always seem to find away in. |

I do a ton of driving, definitely not staying stock. I'm going to keep the interior looking completely factory. I've learned my lesson with showing stuff off when I had my interior ripped apart when I lived in Houston. The doors have massive speaker grills factory that will cover anything in them. The head unit will be the only thing visible that shows a sign of it not being factory. The amps I will be hiding where I keep my spare tire (it is going out) and then sub will be covered by the rear cover deck (it is a station wagon).

no problem.
Also.... I recommend keeping a spare.... I have had to change two tires on one day (posted my horror story about it) and had it not been for the first spare, I couldn't have gotten to a shop to buy a new tire, and would have missed my nephew's graduation....... KEEP A SPARE TIRE! |

my car is AWD and I do not have a full size spare. The donut size spare will mess with the AWD system and can damage the differentials and transmission, I'm not going to risk that when I have AAA and where I drive mostly we have vehicles called "Heroes" that are constantly monitoring the roads, so if I have a blow out they will be there to help out. Now if I go on a long drive out of state or something I will try to find another wheel like I have to throw a tire on it and pop it somewhere in the rear (a full size tire will not fit in the spare tire compartment). I am very paranoid about my cars

I've been into car audio for 10 + years. And one thing I've learned is the markup onspeakers is insane. You don't need to spend a ton at All. But fron the ones u mentioned I'd say the kappas. There pretty good for what they are. I got a pair of jl audio zr components if ya want

Very true in these hard times. Crooks are even worse. ~ but you can go on ahead and replace the door speakers and run a RF adapter from your stock stereo and have a amp installed(if needed) to push the door speakers or sub. This will turn crooks away as when / if they look inside all they see is a stock radio they won't even waste their time. Also don't advertise in on your block (lesson learned when I was 20 yrs old at one time(then). ![]() I enjoy JBL, Kicker, Infinity, MB Also since your on a budget, check out PYLE subs and Lanzar amps. Orion & PPI once in the days was a very , very popular brand that knock the socks out of the BOOMing competition. I think now I give the torch to MEMPHIS amps |

Pretty much any aftermarket speaker will give you much imporved performance over the stock crap thrown in from their factories. But i do agree with the poster above that recommended the kappas, those are decent speakers and should be plenty for the average enthiusiast.
I still remember in 2003 when i bought my 02 Trans Am, Pontiac wanted an extra $850 for the monsoon surround stereo package. I decided against it, found another 02 T/A that i liked and saved myself the outrageous $850 charge for an "upgraded stereo package." Much better to upgrade your stereo yourself. |
