Default The Italian Job - poor copy

Good afternoon!
I would like to give you some input on a Blu Ray DVD that I rented from Blockbuster Online.
I rented Paramount's "The Italian Job" this weekend. I was shocked as I was playing it on my Playstation 3. It reminded me of the old Laser Disc days of old when you would watch the disc through an abundance of static and snow. This was always blamed on glue, unclean pressing facilities, etc. I thought that all these problems had gone away because I never saw them on regular DVDs. But I guess this is not so. This Paramount disc had the exact same problems. If I didn't know it was a Blu-Ray disc, i would have though I was watching one of my old lasers.
I have watched other Blu Ray movies which were fine, but this disc seemed to be manufactured on a different type of material, which is actually (see-through). Has anyone else encountered this type of problem on any blu-ray disc?

I think that review might be wrong.... There's a DTS track on there...

The box lists a DTS track, but on the disc itself there is only a DD5.1 track.

I liked the transfer. It's not reference, but it was OK. But, for me that film is so engaging that I didn't really sit back and analyze it. I was enjoying the movie too much.

I thought the movie looked great. Some of the scenes can be breath taking. Only movie I own that I don't think offers a step up is Under Seige. I'd give the movie a solid 4 star rating.

Honestly, I thought the movie looked quite good. Definitely not a reference disc, but a good video transfer if you ask me.

Default The Italian Job

I watched The Italian Job for the first time on Blu-ray this past weekend. I was not impressed with the PQ. It was very grainy and some of the scenes had a line in them. Did I get a bad copy or is the Blu-ray version like this???

It looked better on regular DVD...

I rented this at the beginning of the Paramount frenzy and I wasn't impressed, either. The master didn't look to be in good shape at all. It makes you wonder what they've been doing with it, seeing how it's not very old.

I agree with you but I thought the Blu-ray version looked a little better than the DVD but it really needs to be redone and replaced. I mentioned this a few months ago and other members thought it looked just fine. I also thought that Crash was about the worst title to be released on Blu-ray so far. I finally had to turn it off. But in general, Blu-ray titles are outstanding (PQ/SQ).

LOL, First movie my buddy watched on PS3 right after he bought it...... He looked at me and said " Why did i just pay $600 for DVD quality " ......LOL..... He later cooled off when I lent him Casino Royale...

Now since Italian Job he doesn't care that Paramount left cause they make DVD quality BD's !

Bond, always check the HighDefDigest.com review of BLuray movies, these guys are excellent reviewers, even if they HATE the movie they will tell you straight up if the picture/audio are Top notch or 2nd grade! They're are almost always spot on right~

If you bought it for the PQ, return it right now, if you bought it because of the movie you might as well keep it. But no ones overstating the fact that it looks bad, because it does.

OK. So would you say that it is just slightly better than a standard DVD? No worse?

If thats the case I can live with it. But if it is worse than standard, or has problems, I'll take it back tomorrow.

OK, thanks. After reading that I'll keep it. It doesn't sound like the picture is horrible, just not as good as most Blu-Rays. I like the movie, and its gotta be better then standard.

It's better than the dvd, no arguement to that, it just doesnt have that "hidef" feel to it is all.
