Same reason you take your pet to the Vet when it's time to cross the rainbow bridge. It's not like you think it'll get better.

See, this is why I get riled up. No one addresses my underlying question. Why does WAC have these problems with animation and only animation?

I created a thread to create a conversation and keep it out of other threads, and yet There's still just drive-by postings making ad-hominems at my expense or demands to shut the conversation down altogether. That makes it seem like there is no good reason.

You don’t have any questions. You just have the same complaint over and over again. That’s why people roll their eyes at you. Even if you have a decent point, which I think you might, it’s grating. I mean, even most of the people who agree with you are tired of it, I’d guess.

I feel like it's the 4th-5th time in the past few months that these same complaints about WAC's animation have been trotted out under the guise of creating a conversation and then gets annoyed about getting the same type of responses that they got last time.

I was hoping for a section that actually talks about Warner Archive Classic animation.

It's the old bait-and-switch at play.

I know I've mentioned this before in the WAC thread, but the animation releases are not the only releases from them that have problems. Some movies like Horror of Dracula and The Colossus of Rhodes have better looking releases from Europe. A moth was accidentally removed from The Ghost Ship during the restoration (this has since been corrected). There was also the questionable choice of using vintage subtitles for Drunken Master II instead of a proper modern translation. These are examples off the top of my head and there are probably more issues that I'm not aware of.

However, it is quite clear the WAC does strive to do the best they can and the vast majority of their releases are without errors and look exceptional. This even holds true for their animation releases. I personally had no issues with the following releases, nor do I remember any complaints for:

Jonny Quest
The Jetsons
Space Ghost and Dino Boy
Josie and the Pu$$y Cats
Josie and the Pu$$y Cats in Outer Space
Thundarr the Barbarian
The Herculoids
Popeye in the 1940s Volumes 1, 2 and 3
Tex Avery Volumes 1 and 3
The Flight of Dragons
Hey There, It's Yogi Bear

With the amount of animation released by WAC on blu-ray and the general quality of those releases, I find it very hard to understand the perspective that WAC doesn't release enough animation or that all of the animated releases are of lower quality. You also need to keep in mind that releasing an entire season/series of a Hanna-Barbera shows takes a lot more effort than a single movie (animated or otherwise).

I suspect the reason why you do not hear board members endlessly complaining about the issues with the above mentioned live action releases, is because we realize a subpar blu-ray is not the end of the world. We make our issues known and then we move on with our lives.

But with those live-action movies you noted, how many of those are major issues that affect the whole program content? And some of these have better alternatives or corrected reprintings, which the animation releases don't.

I keep harping on it because it keeps happening, specifically with animation. If George Feltenstein actually reads these threads, maybe he might see this one.

And if you knew you weren't going to like the thread, why are you even posting here? Is this really the forum that sounded the alarm on waxy Arnold so many years ago?

Except this time its in a separate thread that can be easily ignored by people who don't want to see them.

IF WAC acknowledged, let alone fixed, their messes, that would be one thing. But it's just nothing but radio silence.

What kind of conversation were you intending to create with this thread that hasn't all been said before? Especially as you say there's been zero news about either of these two flawed releases in the past two months.

If the aim of this thread is just to air the same complaints you've been making since May of this year and December of 2020 without you yourself receiving any blowback, I don't feel like this thread has a valid reason to exist.

The problem is WAC covers various titles from classic animation, Hanna-Barbera, DC Animated Universe, and other series (i.e. Thundercats 2011). A huge library, with too many titles lacking any decent releases on DVD. Many series were only released on DVD-R, or in the incorrect aspect ratio (2000s era).

At the current slow rate of a few releases a year, it will take forever to complete. I really thought we would have seen a Blu-ray release of Static Shock by now, with last season in widescreen, to complete the main DCAU.

Not sure if this is a controversial take, but I'd love to see some (relatively) newer animation from Warner Archive. It's a shame how few releases Cartoon Network has, especially compared to the older Hanna-Barbera material. Do they still do MOD DVD releases? I'd even take some of those.

Give me some restored Happy Harmonies (hell, I'll even take that lumbering lunkhead Barney Bear) and tons more Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies and I'll be, er, happy!

Agreed. I dig classic cartoons as much as the next guy, but I would love to get more Cartoon Network and Adult Swim shows on Blu Ray. Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, Frisky Dingo, Harvey Birdman
