Default Wallace & Gromit The Complete Cracking Collection from Shout! Factory - October 2023

A big thanks goes to forum member to MifuneFan who has reported that Shout! will release Wallace and Gromit: The Complete Cracking Collection this October!:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=87187

Further details as it develops (no doubt by tomorrow!).

Quote:
DESCRIPTION

Wallace and Gromit, Aardman’s most loved and iconic duo have been delighting family audiences around the world. First hitting our screens in Nick Park’s Academy Award®-winning ‘Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out’ (1989) the pair went on to star in three further half hour specials (Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers (1993), Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave (1995) and Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf or Death (2009)) and are internationally celebrated winning over 100 awards at festivals.

I never picked up the Lionsgate release, so I'm looking forward to getting this one. Shout! recently partnered with Aardman Animation to do new releases of Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, and others:

I’ve had the Lionsgate/Hit DVDs of A Close Shave and A Matter and Loaf and Death for so long. Looks like I can chuck them.

Keep in mind the Blu-rays present A Close Shave in 1.66:1. The DVDs present them in open-matte 1.33:1.

I have the previous release of Wallace & Gromit so unless there are major differences, I’m good. I would LOVE to see a complete set of Shaun the Sheep though! Hopefully we get that too.

That's good, but that's the 3rd time you brought up that topic but I get it; you're nervous about the audio pitches.

At any rate, I would wait until Shout! makes the announcement tomorrow, then comment on their Facebook/twitter post for it. That's what I plan to do (and I suggest all of you do too). But thank you for jumping ahead regardless.

And a big thanks to MifuneFan for suppling the cover and official description.

How is it the complete collection without Curse of the Were-Rabbit?

100% agree. It's not like Shout! can't include it (even if it's the disc we already have), they have the deal with Universal/DreamWorks.

I'm hoping they include the Wallace and Gromit's Cracking Contraptions series of shorts so I can retire my old DVD. I don't think these were ever put out on disc in HD.

The posted artwork indicates YES!

I know this is an even longer shot than audio pitch, but what are the odds of getting original music for the Wrong Trousers? AFAICT, Happy Birthday To You is the only one that's gone public domain so far, and nothing else is headed that way for decades, but surely licensing music is something Shout's managed before (i.e. Freaks and Geeks).

Considering that the music is more incidental than thematic, and the substitutions were generally well-done (and often not even known by many fans to be substitutions at all), would they bother?

What are the intended framerates? 24fps or 25fps?

Well, that was quick. I almost thought that this wouldn't be out until next year at the earliest, but it looks like I don't have to wait much longer. Either way, regardless of whether Shout fixes the audio pitches on the first three shorts or not (alongside the original audio track for The Wrong Trousers), I'm still picking this up for the inclusion of A Matter of Loaf and Death and the Cracking Contraptions shorts alone since I missed out on Lionsgate's 2009 release of the shorts.

Should be 25fps for most of the shorts, I imagine. Were they screened theatrically?

This is lucky! I'd bought Chicken Run when it was advertised for $6 at the top of the page here the other day, which put other Aardman titles on my mind. Perfect timing.

Thanks for pointing that out. I can't see most pictures on this site when I'm on my work laptop.

I can't imagine the Open University theme or an organ cover of How Much Is That Doggie in the Window would be that crazy expensive.

Like you said, Shout is done an exemplary job with music clearance in the past. Aardman would have to just refuse to provide a copy of the original soundtrack for it to be a problem.
