Members deserve to get the 4K. Is the cost cheaper than the $40 for the BB steelbook? Not a fan of TLM 2023 and lukewarm on Elemental but fantastic looking steelbooks. Disney delivered on the art. |

I don't like Disney's recent strategy for how they have been handling 4K Blu-Ray releases that haven't been from the MCU nor The Way of Water. It's not only making you have to double dip just to get the film on 4K(which I had to do when Strange World came out physically) if you don't have a Disney Movie Club account, but there's a HUGE chance that the Steelbook and lenticular copies could end up being out of print(which was what happened with Bob's Burgers' 4K Steelbook releases).
My words still haven't changed on the Steelbook and lenticular covers for this one, though. They both look so pretty. |

(Note that I excluded Amazon for two reasons: they didn’t resume having Disney Blu-rays at launch until recently so there’s not as much history to compare; and they start pre-orders at a higher price than anyone else but never actually charge that, probably to make late buyers think they’re getting a better deal than they actually are). Unfortunately this will probably be another nail in the coffin for physical media because digital prices haven’t budged. Last edited by brendanflynn; 08-05-2023 at 08:16 AM. |

When old Zavvi was doing the WDAS SteelBook line, I considered, but they were already about a dozen titles in and some were sold out and expensive second hand. I wish I had thought to do that earlier as they didn't do those stupid "Two Movie Collections" which combined TV films and sequels and ruin how I place these on the shelf in production/chronological order (ex. Rescuers and Fantasia). On the club, do titles like Strange World still include a slip? Do they package well, or do you get a bubble envelope and banged up slip and cracked case? Then you have the issues of scratched discs and what can one do about that? |

What the heck? Why is the regular release a DMC exclusive? I'm happy for the folks who are members of DMC, who are not affected by this asinine release strategy, but for the folks who are not members, or who cannot be members (like me, in Canada), this really, really f***ing sucks!
I have two choices: Don't buy it or pay over inflated prices to import from the US on eBay. I'm leaning towards the latter and my Pixar and Disney blu-ray collections will just end with releases from 2021 and before. |

I would like to compare it to the BB steelbook price and the Walmart exclusive price. Thanks. I’m sure a lot of non DMC people would also like to know. |

Actually, there's one other thing Elemental and The Little Mermaid have in common that they don't have with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Avatar. They're both marketed as family movies. I think that's why they're on DMC. Because they assume families with kids who go to retail stores don't care if their movies are in 4K or not, but they know the target audiences for Guardians and Avatar do care.

The movie does not seem that exciting but I might check just for the HDR.

Now that I have Regal unlimited I can afford to wait. Given this new 4K strategy I have a hard time believing TLM 2023 or Elemental 4Ks will get BF pricing just the blurays. I bet Disney prices these at $12.99 for bluray. Last year Encanto 4K at BB was $12.99. Due to inflation I bet Disney just increases the price on the bluray overstocks. |
