Naturally, my copy arrived today with the bad disc. You would think that after 4 years of them knowing of the error that Shout Factory would have gotten all of the bad discs out of circulation, especially seeing as I ordered it directly from them. Incompetence everywhere you turn anymore.

Now excuse me while I go yell at some clouds.

I rarely pre-order anything unless it is something that I really, really, really want and that is also a limited edition.

I am not feeling any desire to get this set, limited or not. That could change, but it hasn't yet.

I am, however, very tempted to pre-order cheez avenger's recommendation here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=42634

...and I just did. They charge a LOT for international shipping: $44, but I did get a 15% off "welcome to Umbrella" code to slightly soften the blow. Can't have too much Dune, but just the same please stop posting this sort of thing for awhile cheez.

Keep in mind that if you, it apparently does not have the director's cut. That it is still exclusive to the DVD from way back when that's been OOP for who knows how long.

I do have the DVDs, but it is a shame, if true, about the Director's Cut. Does that apply to both titles or just one of them?

The extended version ran 297 minutes according to blu-ray.com, but the actual package says 295 minutes:

The shorter version ran 266 minutes and it is called the "Short US broadcast version":

Seeing as this is a foreign release I am hoping that they are offering the extended version and not the "Short US broadcast version."

The Umbrella website says that the running times are 290 minutes and 251 minutes respectively, so maybe it is just a PAL vs. NTSC time difference?

To muddy the waters further, the running time for is 266 minutes also, both on the package and on this website. I guess I will just have to wait and see what I actually get.

Disney+ hikes prices as sales sink across the company

"The Walt Disney Company is hiking prices for its Disney+ streaming service for the second time in less than a year, as its third-quarter earnings report showed revenue struggles almost everywhere but international parks.

The streaming service’s ad-free subscription will cost $13.99 beginning October 12, an increase of $3 per month. In December, the company had raised the price of its ad-free tier from $7.99 to $10.99."

I've slowed down a bit but still grab what I can. Would love that Hellraiser 4K set but have a feeling it will be sold out before I can splurge on it. Have a vacation coming up so most of my money is funding that.

I bought a digital title just because this movie sounds so stupid that I must see it AND share it with my friends. It was on sale for $7.99, which is about the price of a rental.

Disney also managed to narrow its streaming division losses significantly to last quarter to $512 million from $1.06 billion during the same quarter the year prior.

That progress should give investors hope that Disney is on track to meet its stated goal of making its streaming business profitable by 2024.

Bit of an unrelated post as it is on the personal side of things, but I resigned from my job at Apple today after being with them for 12 years. I managed a store for them, but decided it was time to leave after changes in their culture. The political climate went to some extremes and I simply got tired of it. And no, I am not an Apple fan boy when it comes to the tech side of things, but I do appreciate their ecosystem. I have started another job with a different retailer, but am still debating retiring completely. Temptation is getting a lot stronger these days though.

Congratulations on your decision! Good luck with your new job, but if you are in a position to retire then you do not need luck. You have the incredible freedom to do what you want and what an amazing luxury that is!

Retirement is transformative if you have plenty of interests that you enjoy. I can't recommend it enough. So glad that I was able to retire 17 years ago, especially in light of recent events.

Not much risk to it, either. You can always return to the workforce if you choose, but once you have known what it is to be entirely in charge of what you do every minute of every day you won't want it any other way.

Just read that Disney is going to crack down on account sharing while raising prices of all plans.

Personally I love this. I have subscriptions to Netflix and Disney but neither one works they way it used to and I'm ready to drop them both.

Disney should be careful. I bet I'm not the only dad who was happy to provide this for his kids even though I didn't personally use it.

I've read this is a plan to push people to the ad based services. It's not going to work for me. My days of paying for ads are over to the extent that I have control of it. Ads are a lot easier for me to ignore if I'm not paying for them.

Rumour has it, future films will include Snow White And The 4 Dwarves, 10 Dalmatian’s and Toy Story 5 reimagined as sock puppets.

Oh, and The Fantastic Two!

I am done with streaming in my theater now that the kids are moving away to go to college.

I'm going to recycle one of my two TVs and use my ATV4K for the other one so I will have the ability to stream on a TV or mobile device where streaming junk belongs.

I don't know how crappy streaming will have to be before it becomes a for profit business but thankfully I don't have to care. I will drop all my subscriptions one by one as they increase prices and try to sell ads.

Steaming is not the way I'm going to spend my time.

Sorry to hear Disney is exiting physical optical media in Australia and New Zealand. Streaming is so strong it is winning the format war against all optical media, including DVD, 2K Blu-ray discs, and 4K Blu-ray discs. Therefore, over the next several years more countries and studios might be announced. The sad thing is all optical disc media is being eliminated when it happens. 2K Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray was suppose to be the replacement formats for the legacy 1997 480i DVD format, but nothing can survive the popularity of streaming which is winning the format war.

Also, it appears that the over 1.4 billion Windows users are seeing a major slow down in optical disc demand with no new PowerDVD Ultra being released this year.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=281

Select Quotes from article:

"And this coming just months after Netflix announced that it would end its iconic red-envelope disc delivery service on September 29th."

“On July 25th, Bill Hunt, founder and editor of TheDigitalBits.com, wrote: “I’m afraid, the news is not good…we at The Digital Bits have confirmed today with multiple industry, distributor, and retailer sources in the region that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is indeed pulling out of the Australian market in terms of physical media.”

“Word that Disney would soon stop selling Blu-ray discs and DVDs in Australia sent shockwaves through the world of physical media, leading enthusiasts to worry that the move is a harbinger of things to come here in the states and elsewhere in the world — sooner than later.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last Disney title to be offered on disc in the country. Disney will also stop making discs available for sale in New Zealand, according to Australia’s 7NEWS.”

Ha ha ha ha

No one will eliminate my optical media and I can't keep up with the new releases at the moment too much good stuff.

Di$ney can kill itself trying to save money. They better already have enough though because I'm about done giving them my money.

Igor seems intent on burning it down. Snow White is being redone in a way that only insults the original.

My copies of Beauty and the Beast will be fine. I'm good if they want to crash and burn.
