And, for the first time in the series, you can explore the spectacular backdrop of the city’s skyline in addition to the city’s intricate underground system and its rich and realistic backstreets.

  • Become the ultimate fighter - Enhanced battle mechanics and a new fighter training system allow players to work on their skills and become the ultimate fighter.
  • Deep and twisting crime story - An intricate storyline that incorporates all aspects of Japanese culture including hostess bars, karaoke and city exploration.
Quote:
Standard Version: As you’d expect it to be…

Kuro (Black) Edition: A snazzy black steelbook version with a silver version of Kazuma’s famous tattoo over the top of it, this features new battle modes and four unlockable costumes – a similar line-up to those you received as a bonus with Yakuza 3.

Shiro (White) Edition: A white steelbook variation of the Kuro.

Kazuma Kiryu

The legendary ex-yakuza of Kamurocho and the Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, also known as the "Dragon of Dojima."

After leaving the yakuza three years ago, he became manager of the Sunshine Orphanage in Okinawa. One year ago, he was embroiled in the infamous Okinawa resort deal incident. He resolved the matter to protect the locals but was stabbed and injured in the process. Although his wound was not fatal, he was forced into a long period of recuperation.

Now in 2010, he is living happily in Okinawa with Haruka after a full recovery.

Shun Akiyama

A mysterious moneylender who was supposedly homeless in Kamurocho until a few years ago. He manages a company called Sky Finance, located on a building off of Tenkaichi Street. Commonly known as "the Lifeline of Kamurocho," Sky Finance is famous for loaning money to those who have been turned down by other loan sharks. The reason behind this is unknown.

Rumour has it prospective clients are asked to take a special test as part of the "loan terms" before they can receive a loan.

Masayoshi Tanimura

A detective in the Community Safety Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. A cop on the take is known commonly as the "Parasite of Kamurocho," he frequents Kamurocho's many red-light establishments to receive bribes in exchange for turning a blind eye towards their illegal activities. However, Tanimura does not tolerate Japanese business owners who profit from hiring and abusing illegal aliens.

Taiga Saejima

A former junior leader of the Tojo Clan's Sasai Family and the perpetrator of the 'Yoshiharu Ueno Assassination' of April 1985 - an incident in which 18 members of the Ueno Seiwa yakuza clan were killed in Tokyo. At the time, the Ueno Seiwa Clan had an adversarial relationship with the Tojo Clan.

Saejima received the death penalty a few months after the incident. As of 2010, he has spent 25 years in the Tokyo Penitentiary, awaiting his execution day. A prison transfer and then a chance encounter changes Saejima's fate forever.

Lily

A mysterious woman who visits Akiyama's office at Sky Finance. Real name unknown. Age unknown. She asks for a personal loan of 100 million yen within ten days, free of a guarantor or collateral based on rumors she heard about Sky Finance.

She somehow becomes entangled in the lives of not only Akiyama, but Saejima, Tanimura, and Kiryu as well. Lily holds the key to the events that unfold in these men’s lives and becomes the catalyst for their paths to intertwine.

Well how long have we been waiting for 3 to be localized? It feels like an eternity.

Yakuza 3 was released February 26, 2009 in Japan. There's been no hints that it will be localized for release anywhere else though.

Also, the thread and blog post title, "SEGA announces Yakuza 4" implies that SEGA announced "Yakuza 4" (the assumed U.S. title), which they have not, and is causing some confusion apparently. SEGA announced "Ryu ga Gotoku 4: Densetsu wo Tsugu Mono", the next game in the Yakuza series, and don't expect a U.S. release for that game any time soon (or ever).

Yakuza 1 + 2 on PS2 are masterpieces.

- Intricate, enthralling plot
- Marvelous movie-like cut-scenes with fabulous voice acting (I even liked the english dub from Yakuza 1, somehow )

-Good dialogues and characterization
-Old-school beat-em-all gameplay with some flaws (sometimes bad camera angle, 3hit combos into the empty space because of bad camera or evading opponent)
-30hours+ gameplay for each
-and there are many Yakuzas, Samurai Swords and mini games around!!

The third one isn't available in english as of now, but it seems to be a very good game. But because of the prominent story/dialogues it's not a game I'd like to play with a translation/walkthrough next to me.

Toshihiro Nagoshi Yakuza 4

Quote:
Regarding Yakuza 4, he said, "this is the Ryu ga Gotoku I've most wanted to make." Ideas that he's had in mind since the first title are at last being put to use here.

Following the broadcast, Nagoshi fielded questions from the press. He confirmed that Yakuza 4 will appear in theater-only form at TGS. Don't cancel your Shinkansen ticket yet, though. The content of the trailer, he said, would make people who are already excited to buy the game even more excited. We'll even get a glimpse of a time when the character of Goro Majima did not wear an eye patch!

Speaking about the game's development in general, he said that this time around the team is taking care to reflect the opinions of players. Apparently, many asked that the game's drama volume be expanded, and that's what we'll be getting. But this won't just be a glorified movie, as Nagoshi assured that the mini games and other gameplay elements would be even stronger this time.
