I was expecting this price increase coming by the end of the year. I assume. since i pay yearly. The new price will affect me on 1/21 of the new year just as it has every year.

As for the password crackdown. With Netflix doing it first and claiming it was a success, you knew the other streamers would follow suit.

Where are you getting this loss of 11 million subscribers?

Disney+ Loses 5.4 Million Q3 Subscribers, Including 300,000 Subs in North America

The Walt Disney Co. Aug. 9 reported that its branded Disney+ subscription streaming VOD service ended the third quarter (ended July 1) with 146.7 million subscribers, down 5.4 million subs from 152.1 million subs in the prior-year period.

The majority of subs lost occurred in India where Disney+ Hotstar saw a 24% plunge in subscribers to 40.4 million from 52.9 million in the prior-year period. Disney attributed the decline in Hotstar largely to losing its license deal for Indian Premier League cricket.

However, Disney+ also lost 300,000 subscribers in North America, ending the quarter with 46 million subscribers. International operations, excluding Hotstar, added 1.1 million subs to end the quarter with 59.7 million subs.

Meanwhile, ESPN+ lost 100,000 subs to end the period with 25.2 million, while Hulu added 300,000 subs to up its North American tally to 44 million from 43.7 million. Online TV service Hulu + Live TV lost 100,000 subs to end the period with 4.3 million subs.

Overall, Disney’s direct-to-consumer business segment revenue for the quarter increased 9% to $5.5 billion and the operating loss decreased to $500 million from a loss of $1.1 billion in the prior-year period. The decrease in operating loss was due to a lower loss at Disney+, higher operating income at Hulu and a lower loss at ESPN+.

The issue is D+ doesn’t have the steady drip of global content that Netflix has. Dropping 2 to 3 mid MCU/SW series a year doesn’t cut it anymore. And Disney’s inconsistent global content and channels differ from region to region. You may have Hulu and ESPN in the US but we don’t in Canada and we aren’t alone.

D+ has had what, 3 straight quarters of subscriber loss now? This may help to stop some of the bleeding but no way do they see the uptick that Netflix did.

Honestly when they go to 13.99 im done with D+ I think. I will just resub 1x per year to get my content.

Once Strange New Worlds concludes Ill drop Paramount + as well 9.99

Thats near 100 bucks a month in streaming content, way to much money.

I have what they lable as a legacy bundle. Ad free D+, Hulu and espn with ads for 14.99. Customer service cant tell me if it's going to be raised.

Unless you have a young kid that constantly watches the same stuff over and over I suppose.

I’m guessing $19.99 will be the US price once they merge Hulu and Disney+ next year based on the new bundle pricing.

Then I came here to see comments. I did the 1 year deal of Hulu with ads + Disney+ w/o ads for $1.99 + $2.99 which ends in late November. In the new price table (at the end of that article) I don't see how much this option will cost. I don't know how many ads Disney+ puts in to know if I can handle it. AFAIK, even the people who pay annually will have to pay the higher price once their year is up.

Many times I've read people saying this is their strategy. Subscribe to 1 service for 1 month and concentrate 100% on that service. Cancel and move to the next service. Once prices go up in the next few months, I plan to try this.

Unfortunately I've heard these companies complain about this practice and say they are looking into ways to prevent this. I take that to mean they would like to block subscribers from rejoining within a certain number of months or not allow month to month (i.e. quarterly perhaps). I don't know how they would enforce this except by billing address.

It has been easy for me to subscribe to several services simultaneously when there are monthly deals like: Hulu/Disney for $5, Netflix for $4 (with cell service), Peacock for $2, and Paramount included with Walmart+ which has been $49 per year. The problem is I only watch a handful of movies or episodes on each per month so it's mostly wasted. I've had free Apple+ for over a year and have watched nothing yet. As the expiration dates approach, I'll end up in a mad dash trying to watch stuff. I dropped Amazon Prime years ago, and it's a relief not to have to check for their new and expiring content every month. There's already too much stuff coming and going on each service to keep track of each month, and it's time consuming.

At this point I don't think there's anything we can do now to mitigate the upcoming price increases?

This is definitely no longer true.

A ton of content got wiped out over the past few months - including the D+ original movie Crater, which was only there for a ridiculous 50 days.

Thanks. I temporarily forgot about those removals. I had never heard of Crater before, and there's no way to watch it now. Somehow I knew about Willow leaving because I watched that. I searched to see if anyone maintains a list of what's leaving Disney+ and this is all I can find:

It looks more like an after the fact list rather than hurry and watch these before they're gone list. Hulu, Peacock, Hoopla and Tubi provide their own lists of what's leaving. Vudu used to but I can no longer find it. Netflix and Amazon Prime have blogspot lists updated by people. I haven't found any leaving lists for Paramount, Kanopy, or AppleTV.

I don't use D+ enough to make this new price hike worth it, so I just canceled. Since Disney is also hiking Hulu, I dumped that, too. I could save money doing ad-supported, but I refuse to do that.

The last of my kids is leaving for collage and I'm canceling D+ and Netflunks.

Streaming services are trying to push people to watch ads. If my kids want that stuff then they can sign up ..... they are all adults now anyway and the ad based services shouldn't be too expensive.

I'm keeping Apple One for now.

I'm gonna use D+ to watch the rest of the Marvel toons that I haven't seen, take in Ahsoka, and possibly cancel it, unless more content shows up that I want to see. I can repurpose the funds for Rakuten Viki and enjoy Asian dramas.

I unsubscribed from Disney+ a year ago, and next year I will unsubscribe from Max too. That will cut all my ties to paid streaming services except Prime which we only have for the shipping. Screw all these studio executives and their ridiculous overpriced services that nobody with an actual life has time to watch anyway.

We have this weird relationship with Disney+ in my house. Maybe it's just a UK thing, but we've been subscribed for over two years at this point and have never paid anything for it because third party companies are constantly giving away three month passes as part of some promotion or another (O2 and Barclaycard especially). We don't really want the damn thing, but every time we're about to let it lapse, a different company goes "Here! Have three months of Disney+ on us!" Umm, okay, thanks, I guess I expect the same is true of alot of UK 'subscribers'. There's probably four genuine ones and the rest are just riding free promotions.

Of all the people who are cancelling, as I will likely do after November when my current deal ends, do you plan to do 1 streaming service for 1 month at regular price and then cancel it, or do you all plan to stop these services completely?

By cycling you will have several new things to concentrate on as you use each service maybe twice per year (for 2 months).

That's my plan until they put in measures to prevent starting and stopping one month at a time. At that point then I guess I'll spend more time watching my physical media library.

I only sign up to a service in order to binge-watch/catch up on shows or movies. I had Disney + for a couple of months and had just quit. Now I have Britbox for a month. I miss when everything was on Netflix. Trying to get every streaming service is like going back to cable.
