I've noticed that most of the movies that have been huge box office successes since the pandemic are movies that offered moviegoers some kind of visual experience weather it be movies in 3D, movies that were especially made for the big screen/IMAX that went beyond the typical generic 2D movie experience from Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage, Dune Part 1, Top Gun 2: Maverick, Oppenheimer, The Meg 2: The Trench, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem.

It’s not a coincidence but it’s also not a wacky conspiracy. The reality is that the bean counters waved their magic wands and their magic formulas based on many factors, knew the movies were going to lose money, so cancelled the 3D versions to save some cash. Another factor that is a very uniquely modern one is movies being worked on right up until and beyond the release date, which means suddenly the conversions are not even possible to complete.
If only 3D was popular enough to single handedly dictate a movie’s success. That wasn’t even true back in its heyday I’m afraid.
