Default Is there an official " movies that show off your surrounds " thread???

I know there's review threads waterfall and lfe threads. But is there a thread in here that to some is much more impressive than a massive speaker with lfe? And that would be the rear surrounds

I love the lfe. But to me it needs to be accompanied by the rest of the speakers. And with HD audio I can't tell you how cool it is to me and others to hear those rear channels kick in when bullets go by or a helicopter seems like it's literally behind you.

So what movies really have a good surround track on them. Something that makes me KNOW all the time I actually have speakers behind me

Master and Commander makes good use of the surrounds as well as 3:10 to Yuma.

One of the most active and pristine-sounding surround titles you can find is Kung Fu Panda (Dolby TrueHD 5.1 channel). From the bottom to the top, and all the way around, the audio is pure reference-quality.

Tai Lung's escape scene and Po's kung fu training are stunning, both sonically and visually.

For live-action films, Black Hawk Down (PCM 5.1 channel) has some of the most active surround audio around.

For 7.1 channel, 3:10 to Yuma is delivers excellent, pristine PCM audio.

Maybe a dumb question. But when my receiver says PCM it means it's playing in HD right?

Might have to check out Kung Fu panda tonight

also I found the original fast and furious and that is actually really really good sound wise.

Push the 'Display' button on your PS3 remote and it will tell you what the PS3 is decoding.

Which receiver, I don't see it in your Sig.

That means the PS3 is decoding the Dolby true HD track and sending it as PCM to your receiver. You're getting the good stuff!

There are swedish and Norwegian radio stations online where you can download DTS 5.1 encoded WAV files. I have a bunch of them (Many are English) and its a great way to show off the surrounds because most of them are demo or test samples.

One of the best is one where a person is getting chased through a mall or something. You can hear the footsteps echo on the tile floors, doors opening and closing, people talking as you pass them. Just very cool, but most of the files are large (20 - 200 MB).

Oh, also, I have not been able to get my PS3 to play them. I need to play them through my D-Link DSM320 media player. Which is no big deal just a little disappointing.

Dragon Hunters (DTS-HD-MA 5.1)
The Sky Crawlers (Dolby True HD 5.1)

both of these movies will not only give you some of the best test of your surrounds, either one of these will also shake your house off it's foundations throughout the movie with thunderous LFE!

HellBoy 2
Punisher War Zone
Knowing
300:The Extreme Edition
Batman Begins
Batman:The Dark Knight(TDK)

And many more I havent even begun to think of....
But with many Blu Ray Movies the Surrounds Are Very Active...

I do believe as Blu Rays take over from the Regular DVD's you will see a lot of Movies Moving to 7 channel Surround Tracks.Which will have Very Active Surround Channels.

I haven't been there in a while, so I'm not sure how they are organized. I think the Swedish Radio has the option for DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1.

The movie I use to test my surrounds is Tears of the sun. There seems to always be bullets flying behind them especially in the last fight scene.

#1 on my list is 3:10 to Yuma. It uses all 7 channels and with tons of background and ambient noises surrounding you, especially those bullets wizzing by your head!
