What are the essential Grapevine releases? I’ve been aware of them for years but never purchased anything.

I was hoping someone would come in and answer the same question. I read up on a few of the titles they have and made a list of possibilities, but I can't honestly vouch for the quality of the releases or even the movies themselves! Anyone have any recommendations?

Yeah, I didn't see a single pressed DVD or Blu on the products page, which makes me leery about purchasing, particularly since they are more or less calling it quits and returns may not be easy. I'm tempted on some titles, but I just threw in a request for a couple of them at VCI with hopes they may consider picking up some of the more popular Grapevine titles.

Yeah, people are right to be cautious when purchasing titles from Grapevine. And reviews of their titles are few and far between. But they are a good source for obscure silents on Blu-ray. But again, you have to be careful because the source they utilize isn't necessarily the best one out there. I just purchased the following, most of which were sourced from Edward Lorusso Kickstarters (see the Nitrateville forum). Lorusso does a quality job, often from Library of Congress HD scans, so then it's just a matter of Grapevine not screwing it up, like they apparently did with one of their earlier Blu-rays, Enchantment, which allegedly had dodgy DNR/compression. I believe these are all Lorusso sourced except for Are Parents People and White Gold.

This looks better than the 30% Criterion sale that Unobstructed View promoted until Sept. 17. (But I also need to factor exchange rates and shipping.) I'll have a look at WowHD as well since they already post in CAD and shipping is included.

Edit: Some of WowHD prices are still better. A few are $30 or less for Blu-rays.

It looks like the last Ronin Flix sale they promoted on their Facebook page (in the Fall) was for last Halloween. Started on Oct 18th 2022 and you got 40% off when spending $50 or more. So maybe next month...?

Ronin shipping to Canada is way to expensive, like $26 for a single movie.

As it happens, there's a local Vancouver shop Videomatica which carries Ronin titles at decent prices. They also had a Labor Day Sale recently and I picked up 3:15 and the Jet Li Double Feature: Fist of Legend / Tai Chi Master on sale.
