ok but you said that was why you personally didn't get an Xbox. But you said you would buy a PS5 if there was a hypothetical one time activation, and as I just went through that's the same thing, for an aware and careful user such as yourself, as the Xbox issue as long as you ask the seller to confirm they won't wipe it before it ships lol.

I only wouldn't have a problem with a one-time online activation if it was impossible to put the system in a state that needed to be activated again. Xbox One and Xbox Series X are extremely easy to put into a state that needs to be re-activated online and that's why I won't buy them. Plenty of Xbox consoles will become bricks after Microsoft ends support. If Sony ever releases a console with the same issues then I will stop buying PlayStation as well. |

That stinks of the XBSX/S can easily be set to a setting that requires them to be reconnected online again each time. What a pain that would be if internet ever went down or was fragile/weak.
PS5, on launch day November 2020, mine was a brick pretty much until I updated it online. Before that, I tried playing games PS4 and PS5, and it kept telling me that in order to play any games, I must update the PS5. Once that was done, the games thankfully worked, but it was the very first console in my entire history of gaming that required updating a console in order to play a single game or even watch a movie disc. That was terrible but I hear the newer consoles have updates already installed to avoid that to a degree if true. In other news, Best Buy, starting in January 2024, is completely discontinuing all support for disc movies in store and online, but said they'll continue to support disc gaming in their stores and online apparently. That stinks they're dropping all movie disc support. Reminds me of the days of CDs. |
