Information for this release was just loaded onto Amazon.it, and apparently the 4K UHD will have Italian SDH, English and French subtitles, while the Blu-ray will have Italian SDH and English subtitles. The 4K UHD edition also includes a Blu-ray copy.
The listing says the 4K UHD and Blu-ray are 24 fps and 134 minutes (the PAL DVD is listed as 128 minutes) with Italian: DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio and Dolby Vision HDR on the 4K UHD disc. |

Marco Bellocchio’s apparently final film in an English friendly UHD from Eagle and with Dolby Vision. Bellocchio is a living legend of (European) cinema, soon celebrating 60 years in the business yet he’s still incredibly underrated and his works underrepresented in all mediums anywhere in the world. Fists in the Pocket took until 2019 for Criterion’s release - and it’s still the only film of his in the collection. During Covid, he directed a six-part miniseries (Exterior Night) starring Toni Servillo and no one’s heard of it outside Italy. So, I’m taking the UHD totally happy and excited but I wonder what prevents studios / distributors from making his work available for audiences. |

Got my copy today. This release may be a little problematic for some as the included BD did not play on my Panasonic player at all. I have a PlayStation but never use it to play back discs and it worked there strangely. Just keep that in mind if you need the BD. The extra feature, BTS and interviews with Marco Bellocchio, non-subtitled, is just on the BD.
The UHD itself works perfectly but does not have the advertised Dolby Vision, just HDR10. It’s no big deal to me but having it advertised so much on the cover and on Amazon etc. makes the omission disappointing. The master itself looks really good and no issues from what I saw. Sharp, precise, solid colors etc. (I’m not yet sure how much the digital look will distract me when seeing this period piece but that’s another story). Audio has a high bitrate and sounds very dynamic, again based on my brief check. I’ll try and see the film as soon as possible, likely early next week. In case I spot more issues, I’ll report back. Otherwise, I hope as many Bellocchio fans as possible will support this UHD. |

Got my copy through today. As nicwood said, no DV, but the disc is about 83GB, so nice they didn't cram it onto a BD-66 (I get the impression the film is quite visually dark) - hopefully a good encoding as well as one with a high bitrate! Doing a BDInfo run on it now.

Eh, must be a bug in my copy of BDInfo - will investigate another time. Partial output, which I appreciate is not that useful, but does confirm the very basics...
EDIT: The film video stream is 83,219,564,544 bytes, so most of the disc. Code:

With France it works both ways. Plenty of films get French discs that don’t get UK ones (After Yang, Showing Up) or months or at least half a year before the UK (Benedetta, Fumer fait tousser, Revoir Paris, R.M.N.), but then Saint Omer ends up DVD only in France with a UK Blu-ray. |
