Maybe the standard 4K release will come in 2027, for the 65th anniversary.

Given the reduced sales of discs and the fact that 4K never caught on like DVD or even bluray. In order to manufacture any release in any format there is a minimum the studio has to make. I'm guessing Sony thinks that LoA is a premium item, put it in premium steelbook packaging, make the minimum manufacturing order and sell it out with no inventory costs. There are meetings P&L meetings at Sony, profit and loss, to determine the best way to put out a title. It seems their best solution is to first put it in the Columbia 4K box, then do steelbooks and a second steelbook run. They may do a minimum standard edition as well in the future. They are seeing this title sells well. |

I'm not even interested anymore, they had me hooked to buy and I didn't even really want it that much. This artificial fomo just lost them a customer.

Doctor Strange love The last picture show Lawrence of Arabia. The rest have not. So that should answer your question. |

Would I advise anyone to wait for a standard release instead of grabbing it now? Of course not. |

My copy from Amazon that I ordered on September 15 for $27.18 with an estimated late October shipping date surprisingly shipped today with a projected delivery date of Wednesday.
![]() Alas, I'm quite confident it's being shipped in a thin plastic bag with no padding whatsoever so it should show up damaged by either being crushed, dented, and/or scratched. ![]() ![]() |

Imagine if Sony decides to do an 8K restoration of Lawrence for the 65th anniversary, in 2027, or the 70th anniversary, in 2032? I'm not saying the original negatives have anywhere near 8K level of detail, but it would be a nice future-proof measure, and it would be an improvement even when downconverted to 4K for home release.
