It would have Winslet at the top and Decaprio hanging on to the C. Can one of you wizz kids go to the trouble of mocking it up. The Alternative is as Disney are losing money because Streaming is not the new king of film. Instead of the Titanic it's a Disney Cruise Ship avoiding the iceberg because the live action version of The Little Mermaid melts it with the help of the cast of Buzz Lightyear and Elemental.

I just looked at a large version of the cover art from this site and it looks like Leo's upper lip has been DNR'd into oblivion.

Having worked on the original Blu-ray, I highly doubt it will get an “open-matte” release. Fox tried to get Paramount to use one of the 3D layers “open-matte” for their disc, and when the artifacts (which did enhance the 3D) were pointed out, Paramount and Lightstom insisted that the proper 2.35 master be used.

While Titanic was filmed open-matte, all SPFX were rendered at 2.35, and look atrocious when zoom/cropped, which an “open-matte” master would require.

I mean- is it not without merit? His doubling down re: the LOTR trilogy being “a full 4K rebuild from the original negative + film-out elements” when it was, in fact, proven to be a 2K upscale has to be one of greatest blunders in home media reporting history. It destroyed his credibility beyond redemption in the eyes of many here and elsewhere.

Considering this must be, if not close to Paramount's "top dog" back catalog film, one would hope they'd pull out all the stops and make sure it's done right. Then again, if JC has complete "artistic" rights and DNR is his thing or it's a NO-GO.....then we are screwed!

If there ever was a time or a film for Paramount to redeem themselves, this would be it..........

I really hope the film is done right and we don’t get another T2. I’ve been waiting too long for this release to see it mishandled.

Well, as any journalist knows, you don't print rumors. You don't print news from one source. You have to get a corroborating source. If not, you get egg on your face and lose credibility. I love Bill's reviews and still read them, but the "hate" on this forum exists because he didn't adhere to basic journalistic principles because he wanted to be "first" with news to get the clicks.

It's a 20th Century Fox film. Paramount just has US distribution rights.

I'm 99% sure Paramount will just receive a video master that Foxney hands them.

And he has a chip on his shoulder. Guy can't hide it at all. That he totally and completely failed to adapt or die to the current climate and news outlet business model. He now has to make cringy wikipedia-esque appeals to 'keep the lights on'.

2015 was the time to be ahead of the times, to make a podcast side gig (big advertiser potential) and a patreon as a back-stop for low advertiser periods, so you don't have to be stuck in the year 2000 anymore.

Yeah. I HAVE a version open-matte. I have multiple 4K. I will make my own grade(s) in time using the 4K source. That's not what it's about. If you want all different versions, cuts, grades, 35mm print scans and you can acquire them? Have at it. Again... I do. As much as any.

I'm talking about the idea that all the sudden its being asked that a STUDIO officially release an open matte version of their Academy Award winning classic. Which, part of that legacy 100% is the scope framing.

And 3D is not on the table to make a special case for it.

The way it was pitched that I quoted was an appeal that open matte would be the 4K master/disc we receive for Titanic 2D. So, re-iterating; gross. Best I would accept is a bonus disc BD 1080p for the alternate full-frame edition.

Thank you for sharing that! I wonder, couldn't Fox have used the open matte version that they wanted & let Paramount use the original aspect ratio?
Since they were essentially two different releases

The 3D release is likely the closest to open matte ratio we’ll see on HD. They did release a Laserdisc in open matte which is quite rare.

The VFX is more like 2:1, no? There’s clearly more height in the VFX shots in the open matte 3D version, but most are cropped slightly at the sides.

Paramount helped produce it and split distribution with Fox.
