If I haven't said this enough, I think Criterion's jumping ship on DVDs. Last time I was at B&N, I didn't see one Eclipse set. While only one Eclipse set is known to be OOP, many more are either "out of stock" or "currently unavailable". I Am Curious, which they were usually teaming with copies of, was nowhere in sight. They jumped ship on laserdiscs fairly early on (1998, when other studios were still doing box sets), and it seems that they're abandoning DVDs now even though that format is still on top in terms of popularity.

If you absolutely need a Criterion DVD, now is the time to get it.

We know Barry Lyndon's coming, we just don't know when and from who.

I'm not biting until we get a 4K. Which pisses me off, since I want good releases of all of Kubrick's films. I haven't seen BL in years.

Push come to shove, go to B&N next month. Call the store now though, and blow their phone up. They'll know you really want it and get it in stock for the sale.

I don't know how many stores are near you, but play it safe and work all their phones.

I'm happy I only paid half for the set because I've only been able to watch one of the discs. -_-

I usually try to add 1 Eclipse set to my order during each sale, even though most of those films are available on the Channel. I tend to agree they won't be available forever and who knows what will happen with streaming. I enjoy having some deep catalog stuff even on DVD.

I was told a few months ago that Criterion had requested all of the remaining DVD stock at Criterion to be returned to them. I don't think they completely jumping ship on DVD... Otherwise they wouldn't have done EO on DVD...

I think Criterion may be doing the same thing Disney is in the process of doing, making DVD's more exclusive to their own on-line store. (At least in Disney's case BD/DVD combos, I haven't seen one in a store in about a year and a half)

Honestly, I probably would have if I'd known I was this close to the finish line! I've ordered empty cases from a couple of places just to hit free shipping before. Oh well. At least I know I've got $50 coming to me after one more order!

In all honesty, my one pick this time (since cash is tight and I missed this back in July) might actually be to go on eBay and grab the OG DVD of The Silence Of The Lambs. The special features on there are awesome, including interviews with death row inmates which aren't on any other release of the film. If I find a copy with everything up there, I might get the OG laserdisc of Ambersons too.

Besides, November is going to rock me. I still have to figure out whether I'm going to do one B&N run or two.

I want order Freaks but sadly is a digipack, so possibly arrives damaged with bends and dings on corners, why? because Criterion packing sucks.

I accidentally ordered two from BB, and they both came in fine.

AFAIK, Lionsgate releases the movies on their own label. But some of the stuff like Peeping Tom never got a corresponding release to the Studio Canal's UK/Europe issues, and in some other cases, Criterion only seems to have access to older DVD-era masters.

There has to be someone on the internet who's doing Scanovo versions of Criterion Digipacks. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, maybe even TikTok. (I was shocked to know there's a huge collecting community on TikTok.) Also, there's r/Criterion on Reddit, there might be someone on there who does this.

I know because I've seen covers going around that I know aren't real (for instance, the Criterion cover for The Devils), and between the ink and the paper they look 100% real.

If I knew how to use my computer I'd start making the covers myself. There's at least 100 of these by now.

World's dumbest question, do any BBs have Criterions in store? I know in a few months it will be moot anyway, but maybe for the next few months some collectors will have an ace up their sleeve.

My stores stock them but only 4Ks. It’s a very small selection. I’ve seen Malcolm X, Wall*e, Thelma & Louise, Dazed and Confused, Menace II Society, Baron Munchausen, and The Princess Bride.

Ya kinda annoyed because I had just bought like 7 things at the DiabolikDVD sale announced out of the blue this morning then like an hour later this was announced lol. Shouldn't have but went ahead with Videodrome 4k, Walkabout 4k, and Don't Look Now 4k. Really wanted The Others 4k also but didn't realize it hadn't released yet, maybe next time.

The Chantal Akerman set is the first time an entire Eclipse set has been upgraded to BD. On the downside, it looks like the Eclipse set has been removed from Criterion's site, and appears to have gone OOP.
