I watched Titanic for the first time ever in my life in 2012, in the first 3D re-release. It was quite the experience. I remember a very good 3D for a conversion, as well. Though I was an idiot and kept taking my glasses on and off to compare, so since the movie was very long, I ended up with a annoying headache, and that's the only case I remember of a 3D experience with headaches. Bare in mind I wear glasses, so I wear glasses on top of glasses. Fortunately, again, never had a headache watching 3D, not even in Avatar which was just as long if maybe more, so I found out it was just because I was an idiot taking them on and off probably.

Either way, my point is; I somehow haven't rewatched it ever since! Nothing against it, I didn't hate the movie or anything, just haven't felt the need to. It's a good movie, albeit a bit heavy. I'll probably rewatch it in 4K, when I end up buying it, but no hurry.

No one is body shaming her. We're just discussing what she went through during/after filming and nothing more.

Yes, 29 times in the theater and 26 copies in my collection. I ended up winning the biggest fan contest on the movie's Facebook page back in 2012. They sent me to London for the 3D premiere.

The last five pages of this sub have been peopel criticizing Kate's weight. That's body shaming. Comments like "Too plump and pale for me." shouldn't be allowed in this forum. Thankfully many hateful views have been deleted.

Anyway, back to the movie. Every time I see this placeholdre image for the international release, my heart skips a beat! After seeing the mediocre US cover, I've pinned all my hopes on the Disney one

Yeah I dunno if I can justify the price of that limited edition. All in, this would cost about $255 CAD to have it shipped from Amazon.com to a Canadian address.

LOL def gonna go for the standard release, unless the UK edition is cheaper. Usually is, as we get totally screwed on import fees deposits on Amazon.com.

Blasted with DNR, yes, but it’s clearly a lovely new scan.

If it's blasted with DNR, I believe it is to be friendly with YouTube compression. Grain on YouTube often looks really, really bad. And YouTube is the main platform to watch video clips.

I had a quick glance at the video. I can say that at least it's not like Celine Dion looks horribly smooth, far from such. It's not a Terminator 2.

These 4K scans of music videos always end up being beaten with the DNR stick. I don’t think I’ve seen one that hasn’t.

There's no way that version will be on the 4K release, because not only is it edited very differently (removing the film clips) but if it were included, it would be hyped up in the promotional write-up as being a new feature listed.

Paramount / Fox didn't remaster the music video, Sony did.

That's not exactly true. 2160p videos, while the YT compression is far from perfect, can have grain. Simple as that. My Heart Will Go On with its ridiculous image cleanliness looks like a modern, digitally shot music video, but watch the below clip in 2160p:

It looks like film.

I am getting excited to rewatch this, mainly because Billy Zane's character is a masterpiece of absolute douchery.

I went down a rabbit hole with the reviews of the movie, looking at what people said about it before it came out. People thought it was going to be a failure because post-production wasn't going to be ready on time. It's interesting to see how many people made that mistake. And then there's the issue of Empire magazine giving it 5 stars, and then pulling back with 4, but then reinstating 5. It's almost become a sport to hate the movie just because it's so popular.

According to the diary posted earlier, months after filming had wrapped, they all met in LA for one day of pick-ups. They shot an insert, where the two leads run down a corridor looking wet. The female lead was wearing a red wig, because by that point her hair was blond. It was the last thing the actors shot.

Does anyone know where that shot is in the film?

Best trip ever. James Horner conducted the Titanic Suite live and Landau and Cameron made speeches before the cast was brought on stage. I brought a poster to be autographed, but security wouldn't let us stop walking on the red carpet, so no autographs. Billy and Kate got the loudest response out of anyone when they walked out. It was epic! The closest actor we were able to get to was Jason Berry (Tommy).

Fair enough. Nevertheless, the standard practice is really to blast music vídeos (and sports' vídeos too) with DNR. And you will often see people in YouTube's comment sections praising such restorations and saying "Wow, it looks it was shot yesterday, I never expected to see it above standard resolution, mindblowing, how is this even possible?!". In fact, such reactions to remastered music clips are what prompted this video, for example, to help people understand why it is possible.

One of these days, I was talking about watching big classic movies in a top 4K TV, and someone replied to me that he didn't understand why I would need or want a 4K TV to watch classic movies because, and I'll quote "how would they have been able to render 4K resolution back in the 1960s, for example?". True story. Many people, I think that especially the ones that grew up watching VHS and DVD (especially the ones who never went to a theater), can't fathom the idea of old movies having great detail.

Though people often tend to think that everything nowadays, technologically-wise, must be leaps and bounds of what was possible in the past. Hence you get people who are in awe of seeing incredible animation from the 90s, even though the 30s already had amazing animation being produced! Many people are shocked when they discover that the classic Looney Tunes cartoons are so old: from the 1940s and 1950s.
