A lot of this movie takes place inside the apartment so the lighting is low and the HDR is dark. When you get some outside shots, I think it's pretty stunning. One scene that stood out was when Rosemary was calling the doctor in the phone booth. The detail was really beautiful and it's hard to believe I was watching something from 1968.

I'm very happy with the transfer. It's not an all time great transfer or anything but I think its a very solid release. Especially for the $20 asking price.
I, too, thought it looked pretty incredible. The colors popped, the detail was incredible - yes, particularly in the scene that you mentioned, and the blacks were as black as they needed to be.

Loved re-visiting this film this past weekend!

I was out of the country for a week and this arrived while I was gone. Getting caught up on watching other stuff, but this is definitely on my list to watch before Halloween!

Can someone explain to me how a line of dialogue (amidst other, still-present sounds in the same scene) can go missing like that? And that's not a rhetorical question; I really am puzzled.

My copy was delivered on Friday and I skimmed through it over the weekend. I'll probably do a full watch this coming weekend. Been years since I last watched it.

But as for the image quality, aside from the opening credits which admittedly look pretty rough (frozen-looking, smeary grain - like....real bad) the image really tightens up once the film gets going. In fact, I thought it looked pretty great for the most part. Yes it's soft but the film has never been razor sharp. And while really bright spots tend to break up with some blocky-looking "grain", I still think it's a pretty solid upgrade over the Criterion BD (which I won't be going back to). Not a perfect encode, but considering this is Paramount...I was pleasantly surprised.

I still think they need to fix the audio that's muted but overall I'm pretty happy with this disc.

I happen to love the green slip. I watched this for the first time (ever) and was simply blown away. It’s one of the most suspenseful movies I think I’ve ever seen. Mia Farrow is heartbreakingly perfect in it. Without a previous viewing to compare, I thought the UHD looked simply beautiful. I don’t recall any audio dropout issues but now I have to go and double check!

I just watched about 40 minutes and did anybody notice the audio seemed out of sync in some of the early scenes? I wasn't impressed with the Dolby Vision and didn't see much improvement over the Blu-ray. I am glad to hear other people are pleased with it though.

Oddly enough there were moments I kept wondering but I was still irritated over how awful the opening titles looked I just wanted to smack someone.

Robert Harris believes it wasn’t a nee 4K scan but an older scan. Makes sense.

It’s just meh.

Old movies shot on 35mm will always look better with a proper transfer. 35mm film resolves at NATIVE 4-6K. Modern movies have 2k post production pipelines- so most modern films shot digitally are actually 2K upscaled to 4K on UHD disc.

The rest is not there. I checked on the descriptive audio function on the 4K and you do here it there. It's present on the enclosed Blu-Ray as well. Has anyone else noticed this issue? I'm wondering if it's only my copy. I did try to replay the disc a few times with the same audio drop out. I only have the one 4K so I can't test it anywhere else. Thank you .
I‘ve just noticed your post. Are you sure you had the BD included with the 4K in your player when you said that the audio drop outs were noticeable? The same 2021 BD definitely has the Saperstein AND Fantastics lines intact. I’ve just checked this again.

For what it’s worth, I like the look of the BD more than the UHD. The correct audio on the BD settles the deal for me.

Yep. That's why I'm always excited when an older movie gets a 4K release. It's like time traveling to the release year and getting to watch a pristine copy of the film reel.

While digital movies certainly look good on 4K, they can feel sterile. Getting to see a properly restored film print is everything I love about the format.

Always cool to read impressions of first time viewings. I'm glad it holds up. I saw it for the first time a few years ago myself and loved it. Mia Farrow plays one of the most convincing, likable and sympahtic characters I've ever seen.

Someone mentioned how Rosemary's Baby is the 1B to Exorcist but honesty, after watching them back to back on 4K now, I prefer Rosemary. Mia's performance is next level.

Usually anything in Dolby Vision will get my vote in the 4K vs Blu-ray contest, but not this time. Still, if you don't have the Blu-Ray the 4K is certainly worth getting.

Folks new to Rosemary’s Baby that are enamored with tragically endearing Mia should also check out her performance in the similarly tragic, beautifully-acted “Full Circle” a/k/a “The Haunting of Julia”, a little-known cinematic gem from 1977 also recently restored straight to 4k uhd. I’d go so far as to call it a must-watch for Mia fans that enjoy slow-burning supernatural horror.

Yes, absolutely! And for another excellent Mia-in-peril flick, have a butcher's at 1971's SEE NO EVIL. The Indicator BD is solid.

audio post guy here, but i've never "re-mixed" an old movie, only mixed new movies.

i wonder if it was an ADR line and was on a separate track that got lost or accidentally muted and got past sloppy QC?

they were likely working from mono or stereo "split tracks" with dialog, sfx, mx as separate tape elements. sometimes adr is separate from the rest of the production dialog. sometimes SFX are split to backgrounds and everything else.

im guessing it was on a separate track that was mistakenly muted

Apparently The Digital Bits is reporting that Paramount is doing a disc replacement program for RB.

https://phe-physical-consumer-suppor...ymHcj498V_Xx5Y

Select, "other" for the issue type, put "Rosemary's Baby 4K Ultra UHD" in the title field and in the description box, put "replacement disc". You'll need to provide proof of purchase and the discs will be sent when they're ready in the next couple of months.

What's the disc replacement for? Audio issues? I also don't see where they're asking for a proof of purchase...but I didn't hit submit yet.

It's for the missing line of dialogue that people have been talking about on this thread. I don't have the new 4K disc yet, so I haven't done these steps, I'm just passing the info along to those who might need it.

I've attached a shot of the post from Digital Bits.
