The toxics that are vocally hating it don't count.
I hated it and I’m far from toxic. I haven’t even told anyone online I hate it until now.

When you spread it around to anyone and everyone, derailing conversations that have little to or nothing to do with it, hating on it before it even airs, making web videos like Midnight's Edge did claiming it was canceled every year since 2017 - you are indeed a toxic hater.

Stop turning the thread into Twitter. Not liking something doesn’t make me toxic.

It’s just a preference.

I did watch it. For two and a half seasons. DS9 is my favorite Trek and it managed to be serialized without being a nihilistic cry fest.

"Toxic" is so overused. It's just a way to discount other people's opinions.

It's not overused when it's true and describes exactly the behavior I described.

For one thing, this is a SNW thread - not a thread to slag on DSC.

People said the same thing about TNG because it wasn't like TOS.

I think many of those people came around to accept TNG though, I'm not so sure Discovery will be as fortunate.

It's vastly overused, and extremely lazy and 2-dimentional. And i honestly can't take anyone who uses it seriously.

It wouldn't be vastly overused if there wasn't a vast amount of toxic fandom. Just ask Kathleen Kennedy.

It’s funny that apparently no one liked DISCO but then kept hate watching and continued to complain about it giving it five seasons over seven years but when no one liked PRODIGY they stopped watching and it got cancelled.

I like DISCO just about enough to carry on watching it. I don't love it, I don't hate it.

One of the things I've struggled with is the crew - I don't have much love for them, which was a fairly new sentiment towards a Star Trek show. I don't particularly think the format of the show does them any favours - shorter seasons (10-13 episodes) and a serialized storyline doesn't leave a huge amount of time for character development. Certainly not as much as the older shows could afford. One of the reasons I'm enjoying SNW is that they've largely dispensed with the hugely-serialized storytelling and allowed for a far greater focus on the characters. For me, that's worked.

Picard, the first two seasons, again heavily serialized, and largely including new characters, who again didn't get a load of development. By contrast, season three, brought back all the old TNG characters who didn't need any development so a serialized story using those characters instead worked a lot better. For me at least.

Re Captains, Sisko for me. I love Kirk, and I love Picard, but Sisko went on the best journey across the series, the character you see at the end is very different to the one you start with. Kirk and Picard may grow, but it's marginal compared to Sisko.

Yes, answer the question, what people?

I remember when the promo dropped a week before the first episode, me and my brother who were kids (young teens really) at the time looked at each other and agreed that looked great. There was a definite buzz in the lead up and I don't remember any real negativity about it. Of course you'll always get the odd person who'll not like something. Even the most popular Movies and TV will have someone who hates it, and that's ok, it's called diversity of opinions and thought, and that's the only diversity I'm interested in.

Because season 1 was ok and I just thought it was just finding its feet like TNG. So I kept giving it chances to improve when it just got worse and worse. I gave up in season 4 and haven't watched season 5. And I only stayed watching season 4 because it got so bad that it became entertaining at how cringe it was, i was laughing at it at points

I watched the Trek shows up through DS9 and started on Voyager, but lost interest during that run and didn't finish the series. I didn't watch much of Enterprise or any of Discovery because I was skeptical about how the pre-TOS premise could generate relevant stories. Despite that, something about SNW piqued my curiosity and midway through the first season I was completely hooked.

SNW made me curious enough to watch season 2 of Discovery. That one season was plenty for me, and the most iconic thing that I took from the show was how often Burnham cried -- I know it wasn't every episode, but at times it felt like it. I appreciate the use of tears to emphasize a situation, but they came so often that to me it felt trite.

I stopped watching at Enterprise season two. Up until that point, I was a die hard.

Thanks to SNW, I’m back in the family.
