Yeah I don't get the connection.

Like if I know a food product I like is getting discontinued I still get it, I don't shun it because there will come a time when I will never be able to have it again.

Oh well.

Food is a consumable: it's impossible to make reusable food. Food therefore requires ongoing manufacturing and there is no way around that.

Games, movies, TV shows, and music aren't consumables and should never be treated as such. They don't require ongoing support and should never be made to require ongoing support.

If customers didn't accept online requirements in games and consoles then games and consoles wouldn't have online requirements.

My POV on this is that I will always prefer physical, might even skip a release or two if I have a backlog or too many games coming out in a short span, the first victims will be anything releasing digital only. There is no reason for a AAA full-priced single-player game to be digital only, so those are usually automatic skips for me. I'm not supporting AW2 just on principle alone. Like a Dragon Gaiden also disappointed me, but I understand their decision in that case because it is basically a short side story.

Where I honestly don't care if there is a physical version or not are strictly multi-player games. Diablo 4, outside of resale value is a pointless physical title, can't play it offline anyway. Same with the upcoming Helldivers 2, probably online only... don't care if I buy that one digitally because it keeps a spot free on my shelf for something that isn't just a placeholder.

In summary, I'll always support/prefer physical, but I understand that there is a place for the digital market, whether it's games or movies. But that being said, the digital market for me is a place to skim through trash on Netflix or just play multi-player titles or small indie stuff with games.

It's confirmed that the disc drive on the new PS5 is unregistered when people reset the console to default settings.

https://nitter.net/DoesItPlay1/statu...94057733914836

The new PS5 has the same problem as the Xbox One and Xbox Series X: it will be easy to put the system into a useless state after official support has ended.

I'll definitely only ever use original PS5s. I just hope that the PS6 doesn't have the same problem.

Disappointing news, but for preservation's sake, thank goodness the original PS5 was able to get out there unblemished.

PS5 Pro will likely possess the same issue, but fingers crossed. At the worst case, might be useful to stock up on 2 or 3 disc drives, and connect them to the internet before server shutdown (with the Slim version).

I'm more curious if they'll bother with a disc drive at all in 6. I feel like they'll probably do a digital only, with a disc drive sold separately.

That won't work. Only one disc drive can be paired to a console at once. If you connect a new disc drive the previous one is unpaired and you have to connect to their servers again.

This is a good thread and was probably already covered, also for what we're seeing as a result of the invention of DLC. Downloadable Content:

Hogwart's Legacy PS4/5 aka HogLeg, absolutely requires the buyer of the disc to install a massive GB download in order to be able to play the full game. If that is not saying to the disc gamer that their discs are now only useful as a key, because the game isn't even on the disc, then I don't know what does. It's a major slap in the face to the disc gamers and there's no good excuse for WB Games to release a game in such a lousy state of polish that the full game can't even be put onto the disc.

Another case? Apparently Ubisoft's Avatar Frontiers. Same situation? That's what I heard, but I"ll look into it.

Another situation is Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 disc. If you just install the disc into your PS4, it's an unbelievable downgrade on every level of the game that it looks like a mess. You are then fully required to download all of their GB patches to clean up their mess they put onto the disc. It was so bad, that I requested a refund from CD PRed and got one, not having to send back the awful game on that disc. The final game is decent in complete form on PS5, but they should have cared a lot more.

I still haven't bought HogLeg. When it's 19.99 or less, I'll buy it as it looks like a fun game. But what a disaster if this game disc unfriendly practice continues in 2024.

Resident Evil 2, 3, & 7 will be receiving PS5 re-releases.

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/p...-evil-2-remake

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/p...-evil-3-remake

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/p...d-gold-edition

7's complete edition on PS4 was missing 'Not a Hero', so that will be nice. 2 had several bonus modes released after launch. Not much in the way of 3, but it would be nice if they included all the costumes with it.

IF the PS5 versions of 2 and 3 remake included all DLC extras, costumes, etc, then I'd rebuild them to have a totally complete version on disc. But Capcom has been doing very poorly with this lately, so I think it's pretty likely it'll just be DLC codes.

unlike the past few Gold editions, they will have to print new discs for these releases anyway, so it doesn't make sense not to add everything on the disc. they would have to go out of their way to mess this up

also a shame about the covers, specially 7. RE3 being trash paid off in the end

I was hoping for that as well, but if you take a look at the page here below...

https://www.residentevil.com/7-re2-re3/en-us/product/

It notes "DLC will be distributed via voucher code packaged with the retail version."

Sucks, but it still may be worth upgrading to a PS5 version, I may to have the best versions on hand. All the PS4 versions are pretty smooth off disc though, so not super necessary. I do remember PS4 RE7 being kinda bad with textures and pop in, anyone know if that was improved on in the PS5 upgrade?

Technically, that line only applies to RE7; that makes it worse than the Gold PS4 version. The RE2 listing doesn't mention DLC at all, and the RE3 listing only says that Resistance will be downloaded via voucher code. So it's not impossible that the DLC costumes and such could still be included, in theory. But I assume they're not mentioned because they're not included, even on voucher.

Based on what we know, I imagine the PS4/PS5 disc releases will compare like so:

* RE2 (PS4): Main Campaign.

* RE2 (PS5): Main Campaign + PS5 patch + Ghost Survivors free update* [Will likely be missing costume DLC]

* RE3 (PS4): Main Campaign

* RE3 (PS5): Main Campaign + PS5 patch. [Will likely be missing costume DLC]

* RE7 Gold Edition (PS4): Main Campaign + DLC (except Not a Hero). [Note:Has one backwards compatibility glitch baked into it. If you attempt to play one optional videotape on the PS5, without updating, the game will crash every-time. Was later patched.]

* RE7 Gold Edition (PS5): Main Campaign + PS5 patch (No DLC: Banned Footage 1 & 2, End of Zoe, & Not a Hero) [Crash fixed]

[*I think this one will be included on RE2, as it was a free update, as opposed to a free DLC that had to be downloaded from the PS Store]

As such, if you're interested in collecting for preservation/offline sake, I'd say the PS5 disc for 2 will likely be a big upgrade, 3 a minor upgrade, and 7 representing a pick-your-poison scenario. You lose the DLC, but gain a graphically better main campaign + an important bug fix.

All speculation of course. Would really love for all the costume dlcs to be included; just doubt they will.

Also, more in relation to the thread, Dead Island 2 Ultimate Edition looks to have all the DLC on the disc.

I posted this in the Tomb Raider series thread, but the new Tomb Raider Remastered Collection PS5 disc contains the latest version. There are rumors of a significant upcoming patch however.

I also picked up the Japanese Anno: Mutationem PS5 disc. The version contained on the disc appears to not only be content complete, but it also includes the DLC that was released post LRG discs. I’ve played the game for a few hours without any performance issues or crashing.

Also, having the disc or cartridge version of a game can also be beneficial when developers start messing around with things like rebalancing difficulty or altering content in the game with patches. As long as the on-disc version is stable enough users can reinstall that version of the game and play offline. For example games like Gungrave GORE and Wanted: Dead received updates that added QOL improvements, but they were also made much easier. In Gungrave’s case almost all of the challenge was removed. On PS4, Attack on Titan 2 has a money exploit that can greatly reduce the grinding required to obtain high level gear. Downgrading to the on-disc version is even compatible with later saves so one can do this as needed.

What are the rumors surrounding the Tomb Raider patch? And is the Anno disc fully English-friendly?

Fully agree. There's also cut/altered content that can be seen on 1.0 disc versions, like Cyberpunk's alternate map or the Stellar Blade outfits.

Here’s a video discussing patch rumors and leaks for TR:

For all intents Anno appears to be the international version. It’s fully dubbed and subbed in multiple languages.

Here’s a video I took awhile ago of a playthrough of the rooftops segment early in the game:

I have spoken dialogue set to Japanese, but you can see that the english subtitles and menu translations are the same as the western release. Thankfully LRG didn’t region gate the english translation.

Edit: Updated to fix the links, ugly style.
