The short answer is no. Do yourself a favour and buy a 4K tv if you can afford it. Then feed it some 4K discs.

just a few points

I agree it is a bout cheap BUT

I disagree with " convenient, accessible content. " I can watch my physical copies without an internet connection, If we want we can all watch the same film in the HT but if we all want to watch something different waq can all watch physical copies in different rooms of the house I can watch in my office, my wife in the HT, my dad in the Family room my two kids in their bed rooms, what streaming service allows for 5+ people to watch in 5+ different rooms in the house they live in at the same time.

convenient and accessible are dumb meaningless words. Like I told my sister a long time ago sometimes it is more convenient to be able to go to the store and get immediately what you want other time's it is more convenient to be at home click on line and get it when you get it.

The public is not a monolith. Most people don't care about quality but as this thread proves there are people that do care about quality. The difference is that for physical media no one cares what most people want that is why physical media went (for some people) from VHS to LD to DVD to Dtheatre to BD to UHD BD, constantly getting better in quality. While subscription streaming will always be depended on what most people want and that is why quality has not been getting better, ads have been added and terms getting worst to keep the price low while they try to get to proper profitability.

Why would anyone spend $50 more on an AVR to only serve it crap audio ?

What happened to when people wanted better ?

I guess it got to be more than people could afford or more likely people got way too lazy.

I think it goes back to the thrill of finding a parking space close to the store. Walking became work. Walking is something I enjoy doing simply because I can.

the answer should be no. Upconverting can't add detail that is not there to begin with. Plus with some TVs upconverting HD to 4k just means you take one pixel and map it to the 4 that represent the same area, it is not like SD to HD where some calculation needs to happen.

You can watching streaming content on a smart phone and tablet - convenient, accessible content. And best of all, you can watch that content away from your home. All you need is WiFi. They don't make portable UHD-BD players. Did you know many airlines offer WiFi on their planes? All hotels offer it. None offer BD or UHD-BD players to their patrons.

It's stupid and myopic not to see the convivence of streaming

Streaming will never offer high quality. That's not part of the business plan. Only a tiny minority care about quality. The majority wants choice, convivence and cheap . . . and that's why streaming is so popular and physical media is losing 18% of its market share every year. It's expensive and has limited choice.

According to the forum there are nearly 5000 currently active members.

Most of them enthusiastic about Physical Media and one still actively campaigning against it because he can't think of anything better to do.

IIRC physical media YoY sales was sliding downhill before most people in the world had ever heard of the word streaming. As to the dozen that care about quality, that would imply the other 674,090 members here do not care about quality. At the time of this post the 872 members viewing the 4K Movies section must be lost.

Still telling lies Brian! I just tell the truth - painful as it may be to you and your ilk.

5000 members and only 12 take part in this thread.

Streaming was birthed 2 years (2007) after DVD sales had peaked (2005).

Viewing doesn't mean shit Wendall.

Why don't you learn to communicate without the profanity ?

You post so much you may as well try to learn to communicate better.

At least you wouldn't be wasting ALL of your time.

You come across these types from time to time. There was a AVS member that made many, many post campaigning for Sinclair Broadcasting and COFDM in the days of 8VSB vs COFDM. He continued to campaign for COFDM for years after FCC made 8VSB & ATSC 1.0 the broadcast standard.

Reported his profanity.

If he were banned maybe, just maybe, he could do something of value instead of being the stain that he is here on a daily basis.

You don't have to specifically say that to post against PM.

Idk if you track the used market but when streaming services came out the used market fell to nothing. Like 6 years ago I sold pinnochio for like 45 dollars and last week I bought a copy for a dollar and I doubt I could sell it for much if I wanted.

Streaming did kill perceived value which really made collecting a buyers market which probably sucked for a lot of brick and mortar stores.

And yet I still buy Blu-rays and DVDs. Imagine that. So you DON'T know me at all. You only think you do.

Am I a proponent of streaming? Sure am. Am I against physical media - no. But I don't sing it's praises like you do every post you make here. BORING!
