Is the DTS laserdisc audio the same as the DTS Cinema in terms of the mix itself?

Cameron's one of the guiltiest directors in terms of revisionism, but I recently saw a first-run print of Titanic on 35mm at the Music Box in Chicago and I can personally confirm the film is extremely teal. It looks shockingly contemporary in its grading style in that sense. About 15% of the print was in rough shape, but overall it looked magnificent.

Obviously the print didn't suffer from scrubbed grain or sharpening, but I think we need to get out of the habit of assuming the DVD era was necessarily any more accurate to the original print than the blu-rays were unless we have print scans available or people have recently revisited the film in question.

Related, but I'm seeing a DCP of Terminator 2 in a couple weeks and have no clue what grade I'm in for given how many there's been over the years.

No, the Cinema DTS and LD DTS use different mixes. But the LD DTS is different from later re-mixes.

To add context to the above answer: theatrical DTS is 5.0 i.e. it doesn't have a discrete subwoofer channel, so any home 5.1 version is by definition a different mix. Unlike with Dolby Digital/AC3 in the early days when they simply ported the theatrical printmaster onto disc IIRC.

For the price, a 24k gold-plated case should be expected.

At this point, it's going to be a decision between this and the Doctor Who set, and quite frankly, the DW set is winning.

The discs are safe, the package is unbreakable. Why even God himself could not scratch or crack the discs.

DTS Cinema and DTS Home are not even the same digital audio codec...

DTS Home = Coherent Acoustics
DTS Cinema = APT-X100

Today, they are called differently as they should have been from the start

DTS Home = DTS
DTS Cinema = Datasat

DTS Home = DTS
DTS Cinema = Datasat
DTS:X = Coherent Acoustics plus whatever object tech they got from SRS.

I'm not talking about codecs, I'm asking about is the mix on the old Cinema DTS CDs used for theatrical showings the same mix as what was heard on the DTS laserdisc, or was it revised for home theater at the time.

I have the Cinema DTS mix (source AUD files, but also converted to WAV and then encoded into a DTS-HDMA container) but I might just do an A-B comparison of some scenes.

I just wish Directors would release a separate mix for theatrical showings, then again that might defeat the purpose of the newer sound mix

Lol, I find the higher the price, the more likely it will use "special packaging" that sucks.

Wasn't the music level originally louder or something?

Confirmed Dolby Vision which is good. I think Disney/Fox did that on purpose as they didn't want worldwide people importing the Paramount release just for this reason.

Or in reality: Paramount made the discs for themselves and 20th/Disney.
