sadly the aspect ration for 4K UHD is 2.35:1. Atleast expecting proper 4K HDR DoVi transfer and to use BD100 to the extent they want to have a reference quality master.

That's the films original aspect ratio since 1997

ik that. The open matte version for 3D was ultimate experience even in 2D. Expected an open matte 4K scan.

That's perfectly reasonable expectation considering all those other open matte UHD releases

Any all live action shots are open-matte, any shots with visual effects were crop & scanned. So you aren’t getting a full open-matte presentation.

Most VFX shots are cropped but also show plenty of vertical embiggening, they’re not just a straight-up 1.78 crop.

Once again we are getting this late in the UK compared to other markets and im really disappointed its not in preferred open matte(as both avatar movies were) guess i will be hanging onto my open matte version file then as i just dont like black bars on movies now especially when i know its been matted and i still think for movies watched on widescreen tvs they should use the open matte version - im excited to hear the atmos track though ) i couldnt care less about DV as im yet to see any major difference (it just looks too dark for my tastes)

True. Hence the crop & scan. Not just crop.

i dont think so but im sure i will be shot down - ive been flitting between both versions and all i can say is it looks darker - theres no real extra detail and both my tv and player are DV compatible - i just think its a gimick ...

It would have been an outrage if the UK never got a release considering it was a British ship.
