Wow, exactly my ranking too. GvsK was ruined by two aspects. The conspiracy nut was Jar Jar levels of annoying, and the end fight didn't have the scale and weight of the original Godzilla movie (did they learn nothing from Pacific Rim?)

And movies have been paying for it ever since.

To whoever dismissed all things Star Wars in toto, Lucas is a product of that generation, too. And even outside of that franchise, his output is hit-and-miss and mostly miss. I finally got around to seeing American Graffiti recently, and when it was over, I thought to myself, "that's all? What am I missing?" Meanwhile, I saw Willow in theaters as a small child and I barely remember anything about it outside of Warwick Davis and its constantly changing distributors once it reached home video.
I would argue the main thing New Hollywood took from foreign influences was a more naturalistic acting and shooting style and more focus on character but that itself I think you could argue had somewhat of its roots in the US with Brando et al, its just Hollywood failed to fully embrace it.

I see that era as a high watermark for quality in Hollywood personally compared to the previous double of decades which tended to be certain directors managing to rise above a tide of fairly conservative cheesey light entertainment.

Really what it represented I would say is a loss of control by the studios, they did not have a formula for sucess so they had to give up power to the creative side. I would say things started to turn around somewhat in the blockbuster era but really most of the 80's Hollywood was still depending on the creative side for its big hits, a lot of them from inderpentant production houses. The 90's were really were the studios started to claw back a lot more control for me, an era were more formulaic films started to make money, CGI set peice blockbusters and shmaltzy dramas aimed at middle America could earn a lot with little inspiration.

As far as SW goes I do think you can see quite strong New Hollywood influence in it, espeically in ANH and ESB. Most obviously I think the acting style is very much of that era and the atmosphere generally is very "vertite" even if its sci fi fantasy.

Conservative cheesy light entertainment can be as much great art as dirty, grimy, "naturalistic" entertainment.

I'd rather watch Xanadu than Midnight Cowboy again.

The colorised version of It's A Wonderful Life is pretty good.

Nobody > John Wick

John Wick is a cartoon at this point.

I have Wick and Nobody on equal footing, but...

He probably accepted "The Force Awakens" before seeing the script for "The Last Jedi." I don't blame him for publicly shitting on the sequels.

It looked unprofessional and disrespectful to me. Felt bad for Rian Johnson

The Last Jedi has Mark Hamill's best on-screen performance.

1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is my favorite Indy movie.
2. I really liked Mutt (and Shia in the role) in Indy 4. Didn't
[Show spoiler]like how they killed him off in
Indy 5. Thought they could have made that character the lead (even if they wanted to re-cast him) for new movies in the Indyverse.
