The 820 drive with cover off. Clean laser lens thoroughly with q-tip and rubbing alcohol:

Slide the laser assembly back and forth a couple of times to clear its track:

Reassemble. Hey, there's not much risk if you're considering buying a new player. I hope it works out for you.
Definitely gonna give this a try with my old player. I had balked at doing a full disassembly into the disc drive because my player was possibly still under warranty at the time (which is why I ended up giving the lens cleaning disc a shot instead) but nothing to lose at this point.

My 420 had a glitch last night. After watching Exorcist III on UHD BD with no issues, I took out the disc and put in the accompanying BD just to check out a few scenes. It attempted to read the disc as the main/home screen blinked away from maybe one second or so before returning. It wouldn't even detect the BD which was odd. I hit play again and it did the same. The disc was spotless. So I turned the player off and turned it back on...and then it played with no problem.

I've had this player since earlier in the year with no issues. I had the 820 for about four years and never had that occur. Hopefully just a a random glitch.

And you've never had anything like that happen before? Similar things happen all the time with my (admittedly rather old now) BDP-103. Maybe something somewhat similar with my UB820 once or twice in the two years I've had it.

My 420 has been ridiculously sensitive from the get go. May have just been bad luck on my unit, but the slightest glitch or anything and it freezes up or turns into a rainbow pixel explosion. There’s a growing number of discs I have to run on my PS5 instead.

Just picked up a lovely open box 820. To my surprise, it did not come with a remote. Funny thing is my old Panasonic remote works!

I definitely want to go after a 9000 remote. I’d prefer a legit one and not a knockoff as the quality is never the same. Any suggestions? Saw a few on eBay-mostly from China and some missing the HDR button.

You can get an original UB900 remote for much less than they'd want for a 9000 one.

Out of nowhere I am getting the "disc not compatible" error. I tried skimming but is there a current solution for this?

Make factory reset:

1. Turn the unit OFF if you have (ub820 i ub9000), Turn the unit ON if you have UB420.
2. Press and hold [OK], the [Yellow] button and the [Blue] button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds.
“00 RET” is displayed on the unit’s display.
3. Press [►] right repeatedly on the remote control until “08 FIN” is displayed on the unit’s display.
4. Press and hold [OK] for more than 5 seconds

Pull the power cable for a minute or so and that should sort it.

Yeah, my Panasonic blu-ray player remote even works on my Panasonic 4K player, and vice versa.

I had both hooked up to the same TV for a period of time, and would have to press power and eject from the unit itself because doing it from the remote would turn on both players.

I had a feeling my old remote from my ‘09 Blu-ray player would work considering it’s identical. It will get me by in the meantime.

Should I set the player resolution to 4K or keep it at Auto?

Auto is generally fine, unless you want another device to do the scaling.

Auto should be OK unless you use Samsung The Frame TVs. Setting it to 4K will make the handshake faster.

I watched your tutorial video and you had it set to 4K

Good to know it will make the handshake faster.

Yup. The video was made 2 years ago when handsake was a lot slower. I still use it on 4K because at the end of the day, I want to play 4K anyway.

This is not how it working in panasonic. If you set auto and you have 4K TV Panasonic always output 4K. You cannot output video depends or resolution and use TV to upscaling. Ofc you can manual set 1080p but what about 4K discs...

and important information If someone set manually 4K and will be want connect player to 1080p screen than will no image, you need connect back player to 4k screen and change to auto or If you dont have any 4K screen you need to do factory reset using remote..

Just jumped on this. At that Amazon price, I had to. What's the best place to check for optimal set-up?

Edit: In case anyone is wondering: $347.99. Even cheaper if you go to ABT Electronics with coupon.

That's a steal for that player. I paid $420 back in April.
