Getting one of those UB900 (doesn't have to be the 9000 one) remotes with the subtitle button is a very good upgrade. |

Noob question. As some of you may already know, my player did not come with the remote. I’m using one from my old BD player. I am unable to find/access the full features of the HDR optimizer. All I can do is toggle it on or off under Optimum HDR Adjustment, but I do not get any other option. Even turned to “On” my TV is not recognizing HDR. Where can I toggle between Standard, Natural, Light, Bright, etc?
Is there a deeper menu setting or will I need to track down a remote with the HDR button built in to access all the features? Last edited by sfmarine; 11-15-2023 at 10:20 PM. |

I’m a unique case as 99% of people with this player have the original remote with the HDR button. In your video, you instruct to turn HDR Optimizer “On” and press the button on the remote while playing an HDR 4K disc. I’m watching Training Day. No HDR remote button= my issue.

If you're not getting HDR, somethings amiss with your video settings, make sure your LG has its enhanced HDMI levels enabled. If you are getting HDR, press the OPTIONS button and go into the video settings whilst playing a disc. There you'll see the HDR Optimizer, you can adjust the slider to replicate the presets, but without the remote you can't access them itself. |

Hmmm so something is up. It should still be playing in HDR at the very least. Definitely not outputting correctly as my status shows the dynamic range conversion adjustment enabled. Either way I need the remote to access the presets.

If that’s the case you need to IGNORE the first step (setting 4:4:4) as indicated in my pinned post.

Got it! I also had to switch the Color Mode to 4:2:2 which is now outputting HDR properly!
Now I just need the remote so I can fully access the presets. ![]() Thanks for the info/help sapiendut & chip75. I guess it’s time to upgrade my OLED. |

Offhand, everything right of zero (Standard) adds brightness whilst taking contrast, and to the left the opposite applies. The presets only give more brightness if I remember, so the slider has better options. |

So far I’ve watched a few disks since picking up the 820 this week. I can’t tell a big difference from my PS5 for UHD disks but the upscaling so far for Blu Rays disks is a night and day difference. I’m curious what setting changes you all make from the defaults? I assume for UHD other than turning on Dolby Vision and HDR Optimizer you leave the rest at default. How about for Blu Ray or DVD viewing? I think DVDs likely require some tinkering to look decent.
I’m curious about the Cinema picture setting too. To my eyes it looks better than Standard in nearly all situations. But it does seem to brighten the image. Last edited by jtu128; 11-16-2023 at 01:55 PM. |

Yeah I am not feeling this unlit remote at all fumbling with it in the dark, using my phone to light it up for the moment, I need to grab the Panny 9000 remote, not having a subtitle button sucks my Sony remote even has that. I also keep hitting the ExecFlix button when I stop the movie, they always put these things in the worst place because they want you to hit it by mistake.

Thanks to me being a pain in the hoop, there's a new firmware v3 for the UB820. Don't blame me, I was just melting their heads!
