I am excited for this finally. The only complaint I have is that when watching the trailer, it looks heavily DNR'd. Anyone else notice that or am I just being overly critical?

Indeed. I haven’t heard hardly anyone argue that, but to each their own.

I only prefer two things about the theatrical cut:

1. Lindsay’s delivery of “it says Virgil Brigman back on the air” is perfect in the theatrical, and I hate that they changed it in the SE.

2. I prefer the reveal of the sky after the NTI chamber in the theatrical. It had been so long since you had SEEN sky in that version of the film that it was jarring and made the triumphant music more appropriate. Adding in the wave sequence kind of ruined the big moment of seeing sky again.

Otherwise, Special Edition for me all the way.

Watch the ProRes trailer. It looks far nicer, with fine grain visible. There’s a link in the thread back a page or two.

Also, stop judging UHD transfers on hyper compressed 1080p YouTube videos. People do it with every dang release and it never gets smarter.

I assume this is now the ultimate (Main) Abyss thread and it encompasses all pre-existing threads, including the ones in the wishlist section. I was getting a little worried as I hadn't seen an "official" thread around here.

My plan is to preorder all three Cameron films from Atomic Movie Store and wait for them to drop early. Atomic has been the fastest shipper in my experience. That's going to be the most epic unboxing of my adult life

We all see what we want to see. Stonesfan129 looks and he sees DNR. He sees wax and smooth. You have to look with better eyes than that.

Only better?! It looks fantastic, obviously Plenty of grain. Once again, the compression on YouTube is GARBAGE on 1080p content. It simply wipes away any semblance of texture. How can people not realize that? It's ridiculous.

Can't wait to watch that ProRes trailer but it'll have to wait til I get home tonight since I'm at work. I'm one of those worried after watching the yt promo but if you guys say it looks great that makes me very happy. I've heard from insiders that we should expect great-looking discs and that appears to be the case. Everybody's traumatized by that T2 wax job so naturally we're all concerned. That was a one-off it seems.

I recently rewatched the Sequel Trilogy of Star Wars on UHD, which is unusual not only because it was shot on film, but because of how grainy it is, yet I can't recall a single person saying how waxy their trailers looked. Almost as if people forget how bad the 1080p quality is on YT whenever a new trailer for some 4K remaster comes out.

But seriously, what is up with those big studios dropping trailers overall, but especially trailers for 4K remasters on YouTube in 1080p?!! Netflix and WB seem to be the main ones that I've noticed who drop more and more trailers in 4K.

I wonder if T2 was an issue where the studio knew it would take forever for Cameron to approve a new 4k release and since T2 in 3d had already been approved for theatrical release they simply took that as is and plopped it on a disc minus the 3d?

Come on. It looks blue on it's own. Compared to the shot next to it, it clearly has teal introduced. Both shots do. Teal tints other colors. You can see the pink color of the lights reflecting on his suit in the image on the left. In the new image, that pink is totally gone and it's just teal instead,, and the water isn't as deep a blue.
