I've caught CrazyBlue's 'upgrade-itis'. I can't wait to dump the 663 for the UMC!

As long as you can have upgrade-itis and still be patient. Very patient....

I plan on either getting the UMC-1 or XMC-1, depending on how each will fair with their feature sets. If the UMC-1 would have a second HDMI out, I think it'd be a no brainer for my immediate needs. And when each one is possibly released, you've got to consider the XPR-7 or XPR-5 channel amplifier that is in the works. There are good things going on over there, but you've got to be patient with them.

Yea I wish the UMC-1 came with a 2nd HDMI out What would be even sweeter is if they came out with an XPR-3

I only need one HDMI out so the UMC is perfect. My only concern is a headphone jack, but I suppose I can run the down-mix out to a headphone amp.

I'm done in the amp dept. as the XPA with the UPA in my system is ridiculous as it is.

I'm going to experiment with my subs tonight. I'm going to take them out of the corners and try the middle of each wall, and also 2 of each beside the mains. As is, I think there is too much 'boominess'.

I did a make shift riser to help with my subwoofer's boominess. Just placed it on top of some old speakers I wasn't using. Doesn't look the cleanest, but it band-aided my problem. Also, moving it out of the corners will definitely change the tonal quality of your sub. Let us know how it works out for you.

Hey guys I have a speaker/amp question. I recent purchased a pair of Klipsch VF-36's and I will be moving my VF-35's to my surrounds. I will be using my Pioneer 1018 to power both of them. Given that the speakers are quite efficient how much of a gain is there to be had in getting an amp, specifically the xpa-5? I watch a lot of movies and enjoy listing to music in straight mode passed through all speakers, I almost never listen to music in stereo mode.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Cheers,

Cheers,
The good thing about Klipsch is that they just dont need alot of power to get them kickin. Some of the reference series are super effecient, but they also see periodic low impedence dips which some amps will stress and clip under. The Icon VF series do not have any irregular dips so in all honesty you just dont need an amp. The appeal is nice, but save the money and put it towards blu-ray movies that you can completely enjoy Or put the money into a new subwoofer that can drop your jaw in amazement

Default Look what the Fedex man dropped off!

Fedex arrived early! This box has been in my home office staring at me since 8:30 AM (PT). Can't wait for the day to end to get it hooked up. It's at times like this that telecommuting sucks... pure torture having this box calling my name all day. Yes, I still plan on a UMC-1, but I really wanted to try out the Audyssey Dynamic Audio!

Just a few more hours...

How much did you pay for it? Where did you find it? (if you don't mind me asking).

$999 (free shipping and no tax) from Accessories4less.com. I've been reading that Onkyo is shipping new units in preparation for the replacement model. There's no indication (stickers or what not) on the box or the unit itself that it's reconditioned. It looks brand new to me, no marks, nothing. You can also go to Onkyo's website and sign up for an extended 2-year warranty that adds to the 1 year that it comes with (which I plan on doing if I keep it).

When and if you want, you can also make it perform much better than stock. Send me a PM if you want more info. Just keep that in mind for the future.

Rich - I've paid close attention to your posts from the upgradecompany. That was one of the the main factors that influenced me to go this route. Thanks for the info.

OK, good to know. If you do decide to it will really improve the performance in every area (particularly good for music!). Nick (welwynnick) has an upgraded Onkyo 885 arriving in the UK. Nick is on holiday till this weekend. But, it should be arriving anytime soon via USPS. Look for his unbiased opinions and comments and his comparison with the stock Arcam AV9 shortly.

I was just thinking that adding the 2 year warranty won't do me any good if I do the upgrade, and yes my interest in it would be for 2 channel listening. Anyway, you'll be the first person I'll contact if/when I make a decision. Thanks again.

Of course, like most of these sites, they won't ship to Canada. I'm trying to find a Canadian site that has the Onkyo.
