I enjoyed this a lot, I'd give it a 4/5.

My wife thought it was too slow, as did the audience talking about it in the cinema lounge afterwards. I can see why, but I thought the slow scenes helped ramp up the emotion.

My friend and I just saw this a second time, and as I expected, it really flows on by on a second viewing. I never left my seat this time, either.

I remember thinking "The Irishman" felt really long the first time I saw it, even though I loved it. On subsequent viewings, it began to move along briskly. I've now seen it 16 times in 4 years.

Once I'm able to view this at home, I'm sure I will see it many times.

Once again, I think it is a film that will grow in reputation over the years (although it has a solid reputation/critical acclaim, now).

You've seen The Irishman sixteen times.

How many times have you seen Bad Lieutenant?

I saw it in the theater when it was brand new (late '92), and I've seen it five or six times over the past 30 years, LOL.

I like Harvey Keitel. He's pretty cool in several flicks, including Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, The Piano and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

He's one of my all time favorites. (He was in a lot of Scorsese films, too)

"Bad Lieutenant" may well be his greatest performance.

If the Academy voters are as good readers as you are they too will give the Oscar for Best Adadpted Screenplay to Oppenheimer. But I doubt they've read both books.

* How many Oscars total for Oppenheimer, seven or nine?
My confidence in OPPENHEIMER winning best adapted screenplay is beginning to waiver IF and only IF BARBIE is bounced into the adapted instead of original screenplay category. Barbie making $1.5 billion has turned Greta Gerwig into a Hollywood superstar. She can write her ticket for anything next time out. Hopefully she doesn't make the Michael Cimino blunder (though I love Heaven's Gate). H'wood is definitely going to give her an Oscar for something and I think screenplay is her best bet (with Baumbach, also always deserving). If she enters the adapted category I still ask for the thousandth time: what is it adapted from? A product line?

Closer to 7 than 9.

Yeah, Harvey is a Tarantino/Scorsese type of actor.

Barbie only chances (IMHO) are for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
No Best Original Screenplay and no switching around to Best Adapted Screenplay.

Just for fun I go for 8.

Well, just watched "The Irishman" again, today.

I've seen it 17 times, now(!).

I can't wait until "Killers of the Flower Moon" is available for home viewing, so I can see it many times, too. (I've seen it twice on the big screen, so far).

At $137m. That's not bad at all really. The holds are quite good week to week.

Indeed.

Everyone involved in the project, from the people who made it/ worked on it, to Imperative, who developed it, to Paramount, who's distributing it, have all already made money off of it.

The only ones still on the hook for over half of the film's enormous budget are Apple, and they fully expected to slowly and accumulatively earn back their 1.2 billion dollar original movie development package over 3 to 5 years, exclusively through their online streaming service subscriptions.

Instead, they've already netted nearly half of the film's budget back in just 3 weeks.

If they leave the film exclusively in theaters until the first of the year, they'll likely at least break even. Even more, if they leave it out there during awards season it may indeed see a spike in interest at that time, that makes it even more.

I can't imagine that they aren't happy with it. Moreover, they are apparently proud of its overall reception (Cannes, critics, etc.).

Once it finally makes it to their streaming service, it may already be profitable. Then, factor in possible future physical media and so on.

No, it will never be a billion dollar blockbuster, but it was never in a million years going to be.

Yes, 137 million in just over three weeks for a 3.5 hour, R rated, dark film like this is actually very good.

She's working on a Narnia film for Netflix as her next directing project.

I wonder if it's another CODA situation, where it gets an Italy release, but nothing for the US, or most other countries. The Italian release is from Eagle Pictures, just like CODA.

Well at least this will be available in physical form. Importing is only a mild inconvenience.

It looks like that 45-day theatrical window initially reported by New York Times was true. Still no Apple TV date. And we should expect the same for Napoleon.

Thanks for sharing and calling attention to the event. I had this bookmarked to watch later but just saw that someone has uploaded the pro-shot recording of it here:
