I live for great sci-fi.
I recently watched American Graffiti for the first time when it released on UHD and I was still able to enjoy the film. I went into it knowing it would almost certainly look like a bunch of teenage golems driving around in cartoon cars, and sure enough, it did. The disc is pure garbage but I was still able to enjoy the film. Hopefully you'll have a similar experience with this one.

What a bunch of bunk and silliness. Beyond ridiculous.
Holy shit, I only just realised that by "ME" you meant Midnight's Edge, and now it all makes sense: they're one of the biggest purveyors of fanboy clickbait bullshit on all of YouTube and ohmaigoodness, any shred of credibility that I might've had left for Bunt has now just evaporated into the ether. He won't lose any sleep over it of coursh, but just associating with that kind of mouth breathing f*ckwit is not a good look.

Any idea when it goes up for pre-order on Amazon? Said pre-orders would begin on the 20th but still not appearing anywhere.

It seems everyone assumed (myself included) the press release meant everything would be available to pre-order yesterday. But, it appears they only meant the Avatar films for the time being. So, I'm sure we will see them go up soon enough though.

From Bill Hunt earlier today on Twitter/X.

Heads up @thedigitalbits readers: The 11/20 preorder start listed on the Cameron 4K press release apparently only pertains to AVATAR: CE and AVATAR 2: CE. The other title preorders will follow at a later date. That's an update per Disney today.
And he posted about it at The Digital Bits.

y the way, some of you have asked about the James Cameron 4K title pre-orders, which were expected to go live yesterday on Amazon and elsewhere. Apparently, per confirmation with Disney today—the 11/20 pre-order start date listed in the studio’s press release only applied to the new Avatar: Collector’s Edition and Avatar: The Way of Water – Collector’s Edition. We’ve included pre-order links for both titles below. Rest assured, as soon as the other titles go up for pre-order, we’ll share the links here.

I remember when they were fairly new and actually reasonable in their musings over studio rumors. Last worthwhile content from them was an in-depth interview with Gary Tunnicliffe in 2018.

I think Bill is probably unaware what asshats those guys are.

ME hates HATES the new Star Treks so they've bonded over that.

I just received an email from Wal-Mart advertising their Black Friday crap and this made me laugh.

"Honey, Wal-Mart has The Abyss on DVD finally, and it's full screen, too."

So will the UK be getting The Abyss then? We have pre orders for True Lies and Aliens but the big one for me is The Abyss.

I spotted that as well. We're the only country which has a problem with "the rat scene", and it looks like the reediting of a 34 year old film for just one market is too much of an expense to bother with.

Scandinavia here we come...

As long as I’ve waited for these titles, I’m going to have to stop myself from grabbing the digital versions. Three months is a short enough time to have to continue to wait to see these films in the best possible quality. I’m not spoiling the experience and seeing them in even slightly lesser quality over a measly 90 days.

One thing I realized is this is truly the first time in 30 years that a new master was released physically

The 23 year old DVD is the same master that was created way back in 1993 which makes this release even more significant and it really says something whenever for several years the best version was an HDTV master

March 12 will be here before you know it. I mean, it's already Thanksgiving Day! It was Halloween just a few days ago lol.

There were two HD masters for the TC. One created for a deluxe DVD re-release that never materialized because Jim had rejected it being supposedly done without his involvement (but did make the rounds on a Japanese HDTV channel in the mid-oughts). What's also strange is for True Lies, the HDTV/D-VHS transfer was approved by him with the intention of a 10th anniversary SE DVD. Fox canceled the SE DVD plans due to "political issues" and chose to only release it on D-VHS because it was a niche format not everyone would have.

The "Cinemax/HDTV" HD 2k master was approved by Jimbo himself and created by Reliance/Lowery in 2011-12 from a 4k scan of the OCN. The first plans to bring it out on BD were hampered by Jimmy wanting to also include and remaster the SE and then deciding to create a new 4k master of the TC, all while working on 4 Avatar sequels.

The new 4k HDR of the TC is different than the current HD master. The HDR is from another new scan of the OCN with not only the "specials treatments", but different framing in spots. The SE footage was done on film for the 1993 theatrical rerelease and was never rescanned in any form until now.
