Any ROON users here?

Appears Harman (sub of Samsung) has acquired ROON. My Zappiti Neo supposedly had ROON on it but I don't use ROON so never looked into it. Can't remember if there is a ROON app on the Zidoo.

To be completely honest, it's very difficult to take anything you state seriously when you make statements such as 'If you watch the movies on a 65” TV from 6ft away, of course you can’t see the crappiness.' What?

The closer you are to the image source, the greater the likelihood to perceive detail and identify flaws in the image, not the other way around. Holy moly.

From far enough away, the human eye perceives the illuminated pixels as a smooth image. As one gets closer, a point occurs where the blocky appearance of individual pixels becomes apparent. The image then loses its smoothness, its perceived quality drops, and the advantage of closer viewing becomes a disadvantage.

While watching a 65" 4K set at 6' is at the lower end of the recommended distance and not one that I would personally recommend, it certainly won't give streaming any benefit.

What does that goal post have to do with the goal post that DVDs and Blu-ray offers a superior image to a 4K UHD HDR stream with a quality setup? No one is suggesting that a 4K UHD HDR stream is superior to a UHD disc, provided a disc exists, but let's be clear, for many consumers the benefits of streaming including cost outweighs the negatives.

It's not a question of my personal preference, that's just the way it is.

To you, and guess what, nobody else cares.

Why should they? They're not watching Saw X at your house, they're watching it at their house, and if they're not streaming it they're renting it for a few bucks because with all of the content that it being produced, it's unlikely they'll ever watch it again.

Listen, I buy discs for films that are important to me because that's my preference, and on occasion I purchase digital when it's a film that will be shared within my family via Apple to compliment the long list of codes I've collected with MA and Vudu over the past decade, and I watch content including sports programming via streaming with a quality setup when it suits me.

I don't need to dump on streaming or digital to justify my preference for physical media, and likewise I don't believe preferring physical media makes me a superior person, so much so that I would ever disparage a person who for whatever reason prefers to stream or buy digital.

As far as the future, and in The Future of Home Video, while I'm living in the now, I won't deny that I'm very excited about that Apple 8K Vision Pro future that's happening as I post.

Won't be long now.
Given those views, why would the Apple Vision pro be a priority for those people? You literally said quality isn’t a concern for the masses and then expect the masses to adopt a high end Device with 8K display? Nah, not going to happen.

I think Apple will sell 10 or possibly more of the VisionPro things.

Apple is working on a 2nd-gen Vision Pro headset which could reduce the price by around half expected in 2025.

I don't imagine Apple will even support the gen 1 for very long. The way they abandoned the first gen watch is an indication. Original Apple Watch is Now Obsolete, Including $17,000 Gold Model. It takes a rather gullible person to invest in this one.

Apart from cgpublic, I don't expect many takers except maybe the guy who bought the $17,000 Apple Watch

If the future can give me picture and audio quality good enough to stop me from buying diac and Kaleidescape then so be it. Right here right now, their quality, at best, are merely acceptable.
I'm not talking about the Future or most people, I'm talking about the Quality I get from Streaming on my Sony UHD TV now. My ISP gives me 100/100Mbps Symmetrical, and that is plenty for Rock Solid Streaming. You guys are the ones that talk about Blurry and Buffering, I don't get any of that from all of my Streaming Providers NOW! So who has the Problem!

If you are getting good quality and you are happy with it, good for you.

It doesn't change that fact that a 4K disc of the same movie is still going to look better than a 4K stream of that same movie by comparison (you can assume that you are getting "disc like quality", but that doesn't make it true).

But more on point, just because you get great consistent service from your ISP and so on does not mean that is the case for everyone.

In the past you've made ridiculous arguments like people should lobby their local governments to upgrade internet infrastructure, and move if need to be areas where they get better internet, etc. Basically, you argue in favor of almost any scenario (no matter how far fetched, extreme, or how many steps are involved) all for the sake of getting to a point where someone doesn't have to get up to put a disc in a player. You may as well be arguing that people should travel all of the way around the Earth just to get across the street.

https://9to5mac.com/2023/10/25/apple...alth-features/

Apple wants to use Vision Pro’s array of cameras and sensors to detect when a user might have “depression, anxiety, stress or post-traumatic stress disorder.”

[Show spoiler]For example, Apple has discussed using the Vision Pro’s eye-tracking and camera systems to measure how a person “expresses feelings or emotions,” referred to as a user’s “affect.”

A “flat affect” or emotionless expression can be a sign that a person has schizophrenia, autism, depression, brain damage or even PTSD, for example. Members of Apple’s Vision Products Group, including its leader, Mike Rockwell, have devoted extensive time to discussing the healthcare possibilities of the headset and have hired health experts to explore such features for the device, one of the people said.

Another idea floated inside Apple is using Vision Pro’s eye-tracking cameras to “detect pupil dilation,” which could “provide a clue to a person’s mood,” the story says. “The device’s infrared cameras could also detect swelling in the blood vessels of the eyes, a possible early sign of heart failure.”
Apple employees have also discussed how Vision Pro could “sense weight fluctuations in a person’s body” and “screen for ailments such as Parkinson’s disease.”

You would have to be insane to buy the gen 1 VisionOne but Apple will help you get treatment for it. That seems fair.

People are crazy and don't stop to consider what they give up for convenience. Having a corporation such as Apple monitoring my health and well-being sounds like a dystopian nightmare. That information could be used to deny insurance coverage, medical procedures and even employment. The more they know about us the better the methods of control they can utilize.

Wow, that sounded more paranoid than I intended but similar tactics are already used with the information they have now.

There's so much data. Bought, sold, traded. You can pay by the minute (AKA subscribe) for a service to try to reduce your online data traffic.

May be nice to have a few things in life that are fully NOT online.

Probably a waste of my time but will give it a go one more time. It does not matter if your ISP 10GB symmetrical to your location, the most important thing is the bandwidth between you and the CDN.

Every time you stream a title you never know where that data will be sourced from. It may come from a edge cache server or it may come from a remote data center. Look at Prime Video, for two titles the bandwidth is 90 Mbps while the third is just 20 Mbps. When I did those test each title was given several minutes to stream before the data was recorded. A speed test to my ISP was ≈ 270 Mbps.

Another streaming point that is lost on many, there is a large variation in the data rates between providers for the same title. As can been seen Movies Anywhere is the leader in this test. Prime Video sucks in the audio department with very low data rates and 5.1 while the others had ≥ 7.1.4

Behind the spoilers is my latest news:

[Show spoiler]Tomorrow I am leaving for Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for two day's worth of testing.

I have three appointments tomorrow afternoon beginning with a treadmill stress test (CPET=Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing) and immediately after that I meet with my transplant cardiologist to go over the results and to receive my instructions for Friday's surgical procedure. More about that in a moment. Last on the agenda tomorrow is a MRI of the lumbar spine ordered by my neurologist; my disease (hATTR-CM) is multi-systemic affecting much more than my heart. My day won't finish until 8 PM; it will be exhausting.

Friday morning I am having a surgical procedure called a right heart catheterization also known as a pulmonary artery catheterization. The purpose is to directly measure the blood pressure in the right atrium, the right ventricle, and in the pulmonary artery.

Pulmonary hypertension, or high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery (lungs), can disqualify a patient from receiving a heart transplant IF it is found to be untreatable. This procedure will determine if I have pulmonary hypertension and, if so, whether or not it is treatable.

In my case, the catheter will be inserted into my jugular vein and threaded into my heart as illustrated here:

I will be awake the entire time, which makes me nervous.

The procedure comes with a small chance of very serious complications some of which can be fatal. The recovery period can take up to two weeks and that's if the test goes smoothly.

Ideally, I will get to go home afterwards. The surgery should take about an hour to do and then I have to spend 2-4 hours in the recovery room.

There is a good chance that I will be admitted to the hospital for observation and certainly if anything goes wrong. I have been told to pack a bag for an extended stay just in case.

If I pass Friday's operation there is still a LOT of testing to follow to determine if I am a viable transplant candidate. If I fail, my hopes of getting a heart transplant will end right here. It would also mean no liver transplant, either.

As regards the liver transplant, my neurologist disagrees that I need one while my transplant cardiologist says that I do. Both doctors make compelling arguments and at this point I do not know whose advice to follow.

The coming days look to be really challenging. Please wish me luck and thank you all for caring about me enough to do so and for reading my posts. I will let you know what happens as soon as I can.
