![]() I've also got a few scans of my 70mm frames from the film, along with my frame scans of a 35mm release print. Happy to share a few here to as I recall a discussion about aspect ratios here a few pages back. |

I bought a few 35mm film strips (from Pride & Prejudice) off eBay that I put in a plastic sleeve and use as bookmarks:
![]() I think this seller (ware electronics) is legit and their strips seem to be sourced from a combination of 35mm film prints and 35mm trailers. This one above is definitely from a trailer since you can see it dissolving into a scene that occurs earlier. There’s also an Etsy seller that sells lamp shades of recycled 35mm film strips, which seems like a neat idea for a home theatre. They have one for Titanic: ![]() Link with more pictures for those that want to determine validity and get a better look: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/2217...ilm-strip-lamp |

I did just watch this - I really had no complaints. Not that that should be a ringing endorsement since I won't catch everything more astute members would, but it was definitely an upper tier release to me. Last edited by BrandonJF; 12-03-2023 at 11:52 PM. |

They did retain a good deal of the stuff on Disc 4, moving it to Disc 3, including the extensive stills galleries, but they dropped some significant video features. I also added stars next to the features left off the 2005 Paramount 3-disc DVD set, but later included on the 2012 Paramount BD set. The features that were exclusive to the 2005 Fox International DVD set, and which have never appeared on subsequent sets are: HBO special, ShoWest trailer, Unused Action trailer, French trailer Last edited by James Luckard; 12-04-2023 at 12:34 AM. |

The bonus feature I missed most on the American DVD set is the trailer gallery.
The film had some amazing trailers, especially the first long one. Luckily, most of them are on the BD. The best one, however, is the original NATO ShoWest trailer (an early version of the official long trailer), because it uses Enya's song "Book of Days" over the first half. The international Collector's Edition DVD set was the only home video release of Titanic that ever included that trailer. Cameron has said many times that he wrote the script while listening to Enya's albums, and that he wanted her to score the film, originally. The official story is that she turned the film down with the ever-popular reason of "scheduling conflicts," but someone involved in the film told me years ago that she actually turned the film down because she was offended that Cameron used "Book of Days" in that first trailer without asking her. I suspect they really shouldn't have included the ShoWest trailer on that DVD set, and I suspect that's why it's not in the trailer gallery on the BD. In the end, they found the talented Sissel, who sounds just like Enya, to perform vocals on the score, but I would have loved to have seen what Enya would have done as a composer. I'm sure they would still have had to pair her with someone experienced at film scoring, like Horner, but the combination could have been amazing. Much as I love Horner's solo score, I think of Tron: Legacy, where Daft Punk was paired with Joe Trapanese, and how amazing and singular that was. |

The final result was so Enya-like I'm not sure it really mattered

That said, while Cameron always says in interviews that he told Horner he wanted a sound that was modern, that didn't sound like lush orchestral scoring, and which had strong synth elements, I suspect what he really said was quite a bit more blunt, something along the lines of "make it sound like the score I would have had from Enya, if she hadn't said no." |

I just watched the 5min plus Showest trailer wow they gave away the whole film. Which I get it, for theatre chains and all with that original July release date.
I still recall a local theater having a huge teaser banner for the July release and was the first time I heard anyone was making a Titanic movie. Oh those pre-massive internet period when things weren’t as spoiled. |

I do recall when the film was released the amount of press / word of mouth mentioned it was an Enya rip off. |

Someone at the time told me that the MPAA required trailers to be 2:30, but allowed each studio one exemption per year, and Paramount used that for Titanic. The press at that point in spring 1997 was absolutely TOXIC, the film had already been decreed by the media to be the biggest financial catastrophe of all time, so Paramount really pulled out all the stops to create a trailer that would blow people away, including showing a LOT of the sinking. I remember someone else telling me that they moved heaven and earth to include that final shot of the ship vertical in the air, as it makes its final plunge, craning up to Leo and Kate. That shot involved a lot of complex effects, and finishing it for the trailer in March 1997, while the movie was still filming in Rosarito, was not easy. Quote:

The original version hasn't been seen for a while...
https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=935850 The last time for the DVD releases... There's also a "35mm" version on the internet, with this unedit theatrical cut + the extended scenes taken from the bonus contents... the picture is too "crude" in comparison with any other source ![]() ![]() ![]() The UHD looks great for the most part It's a shame 10% of this effort is put into other catalog titles |
