YouTube? I've not watched so much as a second of such stuff as I'd like to keep my brain cells intact. But no, I couldn't give you any actual evidence, just an edumacated guess re: the look of the UHD, Cameron's actual documented usage of AI on the Avatar 'remaster' plus the involvement of Peter Jackson's Park Road Post facility with Titanic. But please show me where I said or insinuated or surmised that it is "awful"?

Right so here are those Super35mm frame scans I promised earlier. Just scanned with my Nikon film scanner some time ago, so a far cry from anything top of the range! The film strips were included in the gift set boxes when the film was released on VHS. Cool to see the tape marks on the floor here and there, and the mic in the upper frame.
Now I know the film was framed for a Widescreen experience in cinemas, and I do get the specific framing choices...but damn, it'd be marvelous, as a fan, to see the full Super35 frame, just to absorb as much of the sets and costumes as possible since so much work went into creating everything. I'll be sharing some of my 70mm scans shortly too, as well as some 35mm scans from a release print (showing far more vibrant colours than that fan scan that's floating around out there. I do wish that wasn't SO so dull and dark) [Show spoiler]

Regardless I’m excited for the fancy swag packaging version to arrive, the new extras, and just to have an alternative to the wonderful 3D rendition of the movie I owned previously. That likely will still be my preferred version to watch, and though it does seem like this should have been better, it also does not sound like a complete mess to me either. Curious to see it with my own eyes, from what I’ve read I’m pretty certain I’ll see it as an upgrade over the flat BD version, just not as significant of an upgrade as we should have gotten. |

There is plenty of great stuff on YouTube. Except that almost all UHD reviewers there don't know what they are talking about. I hope that's what you are talking about.

This makes me remember the note for Lawrence Of Arabia's UHD. According to it, the application of HDR had revealed minor and even major flaws that had been repaired in the 2012 restoration, requiring additional restoration work for the UHD release.

I mean there is nothing wrong with reviewing UHDs on YouTube. The problem is that the biggest and most popular reviewers often really don't know what they are talking about. But that is not just a YouTube problem, it's an issue with UHD reviews in general across the internet really.

But for the record, Park Road Post boasts that their filters ARE AI-driven, for example in interviews regarding that Beatles thingy Peter Jackson worked on. https://www.nzfilm.co.nz/internation...les-get-back-0 Quote:

Most versions out there online have PAL speedup, yep, because it was only included on the Fox international DVD sets.
The only DVDs that had the ShoWest trailer at normal NTSC speed are the rare Mexican ones that a couple of members snagged. |
