[QUOTE=Geoff D;21694586]Yes but let's be honest: if I had the disc right here (y'know, to go with the 1000+ UHDs I've already purchased) you wouldn't give a shit about what I have to say anyway

I would listen if you had it..but since you don't STFU...lol

you know you got me banned over at 2001 thread...I won't forget that...

From now on I will refer to you as Titanic..you think you're unsinkable....and we know how that turned out..

Cut to everyone looking devastated…bearded dude learns his lesson about trivializing a tragedy. It’s all so on-the-nose “wasn’t this a terrible event?” dialogue, where the *story* could convey that perfectly well on its own. Hell, without it you could even make the logical leap that Rose used the money from selling the necklace to finance the rest of her life as a final eff you to Hockley, and I’d personally be fine with that interpretation.
I think that line and scene (most of it) is pretty effective or it just had such a great lead-in that helped boost it. Really, I'm fine with the present day stuff. Every transition between present and past has the desired effect for me.

The "on the nose" dialogue came from Paxton and I guess I could do without that one!

"I never got it... I never let it in."

You never "got" that a large number of people died while you were treasure hunting? "I never thought of one of the most famous tragedies as a tragedy before."

But, still.... it's not "unobtanium".

I bought the disc anyway but there's no way a 1997 Super 35 movie [actually 2-perf area when cropped to 2.35:1] timed photochemically could have looked this way originally...

No one can deny it....

Cameron can still use digital tools in a spectacular way or in a dreadful way... It's a coin toss

I just hope in this case it works great.

I'm not that hopeful for The Abyss to be honest

Do blu review sounds balanced and does allude to some DNR and ringing marring medium shots in particular.

Looks like they got rid of the original subtitles for the Swedish lines in the beginning of the movie as well.
Maybe I'm just getting old and worn out, but I'm to the point where I try not to fret too much about regrades or DNR as long as they're tasteful and not too excessive (which of course can be very subjective). And I've even become more tolerant of audio remixes that at least don't change up a bunch of SFX, etc.

But oddly enough, it's these tiny little goofs that bug me more than anything else. I think it's because, for better or worse, the other stuff is at least purposeful. Whereas dropping a line here and there is probably an accident, and for some reason that makes it more frustrating to me. It makes you wonder what other mistakes have been made, especially in such an active mix as this one.

Even the subtitle issue was probably a mixup in communication somewhere (as Cameron's films at least usually retain the original font for their in-movie subtitles, such as with Avatar).

Weird thing to get frustrated about I guess, but there it is.

Sure, but as you can see from mateys reply it's never about what I do or don't see anyway, it's about harbouring a grudge (and for something I never even did, lol).

I suggested this as a Christmas present, so I have to hold off on buying it... the temptation is great.

Maybe this is just how the film was shot and released, but there’s some kind of filter that just makes everything look artificial or off to my eyes and I’m not a technical person at all, so I’m not sure if I am using the correct words to describe what I am seeing.

I have only watched the first 30 minutes, but there is something there that I’m not enjoying.

Is this how it has always looked? Again, I do not know what to call what I am seeing that isn’t pleasing to my eye. The details look amazing, certainly.
This?

Maybe.

I think it’s a filter of some sort. It reminds me of a made for tv movie type of filming or something. It just doesn’t look filmic to me.

Cardi B looks weird in that pic.

The White Star Extended Cut?

I'd rather have the 33 hours of footage still not officially released.

Is it possible to have an edit of Titanic, The Abyss, and Aliens into one movie? Like aliens hiding in the engine room of the Titanic, then wrecking it, then one group escapes into a sub, going into the abyss?

On the topic of crazy edits, there is one that inserts all scenes from the two direct-to-video sequels of Disney's Beauty And The Beast to create a 4-hour long or so cut of Disney's Beauty And The Beast.

Default Defective UHD disc anyone??

I got my 4K blu-ray today.
What a gorgeous 4K transfer!

However, is anyone experiencing their disc freezing and/or pixelizing??
I tried 2 different players. Happens on both.

It happens for me when Jack asks Rose if she wants to go to a real party. And as the scene hits with the dancing and music it starts messing up.

Just wondering if it was a fluke or if anyone else is having issues.

Replacement coming Friday 😀

My fav one was "you know you got me banned over at [sic] 2001 thread" as if the guy didn't fully get himself banned all on his own.

Gotta love it. This place is hilarious.

Hopefully, this transfer will calm down the Cameron worry-warts a tad.

Both this and The Color Purple are in the mail from wowHD, I honestly cannot wait to check it out (as well as TCP, of course). I've already watched Titanic once this year (back in Feb for the theatrical re-release) and will be watching this bad boy as soon as it's delivered.

Watched this in 4k and it looks great! Seen it in every form since the two vhs release…(not laserdisc).
I Remember the stores opening at midnight for release!

Just realized after seeing this movie umpteenth times…pretty sure the phrase jack says to rose about having her and to hang on at the end when they are hanging on for dear life to the railing as the ship is about to go under is the same thing he says to rose when she’s over the side of the railing after slipping on the railing after acting like she was going to jump!

Never noticed that before now!
