Agreed. I realize the top two shots are reflections on water, but the 4K looks even more processed than the Blu-ray.

Yeah it looks distorted because of the moving water but I'm talking about the skin texture, the removed grain and the wrinkles being heavily processed compared to the 2012 bluray. This is really bad here... We can clearly see the AI upscaling in those shots.

It's when she moves that the texture just disappears, typical AI uprezzing that doesn't know what to do with it. It's not adding the blurring, that's typical of 24fps content shot with a 180-degree shutter, it just can't do anything with it as there's no before/after temporal detail it can use to fill in the blurring, and with the grain removed you lose that natural dithering that it provides.

Haha, that's pretty awesome.

I always skip the modern parts anyway.

Gotta love it. This place is hilarious.

The funny thing is, for all the obsession Cameron has with making this look modern, quite a few of the shots at the end, especially of the actors against the sky as they sit atop the ship as it rises, look pretty fake, certainly not up to the standards of today.

It's still a stunning film of course, but why obsess over trying to make the film look "new" when the effects are going to give away it's age anyways? As great as most of the effects are, some of the bluescreen shots just don't work great near the end.

It’s all so on-the-nose “wasn’t this a terrible event?” dialogue, where the *story* could convey that perfectly well on its own. I enjoy Gloria Stuart's performance and I think it's great to see the photos of all the things she later got to do in life. It wouldn't be the same film without it. The crew I don't care much for though. I will say, if all that the modern stuff had been cut, it would have made much more room to accommodate many of the cut scenes that do add to the film, especially the extended chase sequence through the flooding dining room, which never should have been cut.

Honestly, my top 3favorite versions of the film are probably:

- 3D for the stunning immersion, both 3D and opened matte

- Extended fanedit where all the footage has been reinstated, all in HD. One blu-ray disc version even allows you to choose from the original or alternate endings in the menu.

- UHD

I never could understand how anybody could start a film but skip parts they don't approve of? That would totally ruin any film for me. Either watch it or don't.

There's a great fanedit that reinstates all the deleted scenes in the movie, which weighs around 65 GB and it has been created without any quality loss.
Worth checking out if you want a 99% perfect synced edit with the quality of the Blu-Ray.
There's also another one, on BD-50 format, that allows you to select either the alternate ending or the theatrical one.
But it's hard to find it as the creator who made it no longer accept requests.

As for the 3D Blu, I never had the chance to watch it with a projector, but only on a 22" 3D monitor and a 43" 3DTV.
And I agree that it's the best TITANIC has ever looked.
Might probably ask an old friend of mine who still has 3D equipment to give me his 3D projector and will probably watch that on top of the 4k Blu.

Oh wow, I watched a DVD version of this fan edit and loved it. I had no idea an HD version was released.

This already exists. If you google "Titanic 1912 fan edit" you'll find it. They edited the deleted scenes back in, as well and it's pretty good.

I didn't check screen caps. But I just bought the dang thing. As a fan of Filmic and Faithful 4K and Bluray transfers I have to agree with Mr. Harris' review over at HTF. I Viewed on a 92" screen projected through an Epson 3800 Faux K and shoved through an Onkyo 6100. Are there odd digital anomalies here and there? Yep. But not egregious deal breakers to my eyes and ears. I'm very happy with the disc's audio and video.

Just got out of THE ABYSS in Dolby Cinema and, fair warning: that film has been completely de-grained as well Which means we can likely expect the same treatment for TRUE LIES and ALIENS as well. TL is a purchase no matter what, but I’m in no need for a de-grained ‘upgrade’ of ALIENS. What a bummer! Why does JC think this looks good? Did something happen to his eyes?

I have a question for those who ordered from Amazon, what kind of packaging did they use? Usually, when ordering one discs, they ship it in a bubble envelop, which I find don't protect the disc very well. If you order two, they put both in the same envelop, which is worse. I think if you order more, they might put it in a box but with little padding so the discs bounces inside the box, which is even worse.

Just curious how did you get yours and how was the condition of the disc? Thanks.

I’m so glad this long standing tragic nightmare about Cameron films is finally over. Now I know what threads to never go into.
