My copy came in yesterday. I think it is BD-R because the bottom of the disk looks different from a normal Blu Ray disk.

There are no special features. The only other thing on the disk, extra to the documentary itself, is the trailer seen in the first post in this thread.

Jeremy Coon talks about this on the Filmumentaries podcast around the 38 min mark. He talks about how he had thought about putting them on but everything felt like overkill.

Having seen the Mandalorian (the first two seasons, anyway), no. I just don't care about new Star Wars anymore.

Rogue One is the only thing they've done that's completely and wholly worthwhile.

But that's an opinion. Andor is excellent (critically acclaimed) and Solo was a helluva lot of fun. In my opinion.

Force Awakens is one of the all-time highest films for a reason as well. If we go animated Bad Batch has been more than worthwhile.

I know we're having fun here but I cannot fathom actually genuinely saying that the holiday special is a better watch than even a bad star wars movie. I have fun occasionally revisiting it for a laugh but come on.

The Holiday Special wasn't offensive. It was just bad. IMHO, TLJ is offensive. I walked out angry the only two times I've seen it.

Jefferson Starship, Bea Arthur and Boba Fett - there’s still some fun in there. Plus it expanded the Wookiee mythology with Kashyyyk and is notable for being the first TV spin-off (of course Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, the radio show and Marvel Comics series were better.)

Uhhh... what?
So let me get this straight:
Because my personal taste in Star Wars content differs from whatever your personal taste in Star Wars content is, I am automatically "full of it"?
Wait a second... Kathleen Kennedy, is that you?

But seriously, I am trying to understand your thought process here.
Are you implicating that my original post was insincere, dishonest, or at least sarcastic?
Are you attempting to convince me that my personal preference for what I find "more enjoyable to watch" or what I would rather own over something else is somehow "wrong"?
I mean, I can only assume that your response is actually suggesting that my particular taste in Star Wars films/series is "inarguably inferior" to your own taste.
If that's the case, I still find your statement incredibly funny if not completely pointless.

Perhaps you should go back and reread what I actually typed.
Here, I'll even help you out a bit...

  1. The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
  2. The Ewok Adventure "a.k.a. caravan of courage an ewok adventure" (1984)
  3. Droids (1985)
  4. Ewoks (1985)
  5. Ewoks The Battle For Endor (1985)
  6. Star Wars Clone Wars (2003)
Give me all of these over everything Di$ney has or will ever create and release as their Star Wars. No joke!
Obviously I am speaking only for myself and my own personal/individual interests here.
I'm definitely not implying that I speak on the behalf of all the Star Wars nerds and Di$ney devotees so my words should not be misinterpreted as reflecting anyone else's interests or opinions.
Also, for the record, I was never dumb enough to even claim that any specific Star Wars film or series is either "better" or "worse" than any other Star Wars property (cinematic or otherwise).

Everyone has their own personal likes and dislikes concerning art and entertainment.
To argue that one's own cinematic taste is somehow "better" or that another person's is somehow "worse" is kind of dumb.
Different perhaps? Absolutely.
"Better" or "worse"? Yeah, according to who exactly...? Give me a break.

You can validate or defend your own personal cinematic tastes all that you want.
Go ahead and cite just how much money "whatever" has made, or how popular it is with the general public, or even how much "critical acclaim" and awards it has received.
I do not allow such things to dictate my own personal enjoyment of any given film, tv series, work of music, or whatever.
Honestly, I will never understand that "follow the masses" mentality of "hey, everyone else is saying this is the greatest thing ever so I need to like it now and you should too!"
So many people willingly adhere to this and flaunt it to all who "disobey".
I can't help but have the impression that your pallet for films and music falls heavily on the more "mainstream" side of the spectrum.
That's not a "bad" thing but it's not inherently a "good" thing either.
It's merely just "different" from my own set of sensibilities and standards of enjoyment and quite frankly, reveals a lot about your perspective regarding this overall topic.

Funny enough, I'm not trying to convert or convince others that they should enjoy watching The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978) more than they should enjoy watching The Mandalorian (2019) or whatever.
Hell, I never claimed to have "good taste", "bad taste", or "any taste" for that matter but I will accept that I do have "different taste" than whatever you have.
So what's your problem with my original statement?

You might pass judgement on my personal taste in Star Wars content, find it all rather confusing, and even condemn it as "inferior" just because it is different from what you personally like and enjoy.

But what makes you so confident that others, including myself, do not find your personal taste in Star Wars films and series equally abysmal?

I mean, you are the person "going to bat" for the likes of Solo A Star Wars Story (2018) and other Di$ney products fresh off the assembly line...
Me:
You can go ahead and keep 'em all.
I absolutely have no interest in viewing any of them ever again let alone purchasing them to own.

The cover art for this looks just as bad as the SW Holiday movie itself. I love doc's like this though so I'll watch it for sure. Could be a lot of fun if they have enough input from those who made it. If it's mostly Kevin Smith and actors making jokes that could get old.

Speaking of great movie doc's check out Lost Soul The Doomed Journey of Island of Dr.Moreau. It's about the original director getting fired and sneaking back onto the set in a goblin costume and shooting a scene with the extras without being known. He tells it first hand and we here about Val Kilmer and Brando from cast and crew, how mean and odd they were. Lot of juicy shit.

The Star Wars Holiday Special is all the proof that’s required to confirm that everybody in Hollywood was doing blow in the late ‘70s.

If I had a DeLorean with an on-board flux capacitor, one of the very first trips I’d make back in time would specifically target being able to eavesdrop on the creative conversation for this monstrosity.

First writer “So, I was thinking that we should have Chewbacca racing back home to celebrate Life Day with the family.”

Second writer “We could definitely do that, and it would provide us the perfect opportunity to introduce the rest of the world to the whole Chewbacca klan.”

First writer “Oooo! Mrs. Chewbacca! Brilliant! I see his wife, Malla, as being kind of a domestic goddess-wannabe, and fashion diva. Though Chewbacca refuses to wear pants, Malla wears only the very best. We need to make sure to show her in the kitchen preparing a Life Day feast, but struggling. It will create sympathy for her, and I’m not above manipulating the feelings of audience members. I see her having this killer kitchen, complete with an industrial vent hood for the range. Everything in stainless steel, which is going to be everywhere in the ‘80s.”

Second writer “Absolutely. Chewbacca spared no expense, using his reward for helping to blow up the Death Star furnishing his wife with all the latest kitchen appliances. God, this is going to be so good! Many years from now, after this special has become an annual Thanksgiving tradition to replace football, our names will be as famous as George Lucas.”

First writer “That’s right. And the Chewbacca family is progressive. Three generations under one roof. Chewbacca’s Dad, Itchy, now a retired chief, will spend his days whittling by the fireplace, and teaching Chewie’s son Lumpy how to be a great warrior when Chewie is off defending the galaxy from the Empire.”

Second writer “All good, good buddy. But I feel the show needs more. Who can we get?”

First writer “Bea Arthur is always a safe bet. I mean, who doesn’t love Maude? Art Carney is a proven veteran. How about Harvey Korman? We could have him hosting a cooking show that Malla is watching in the kitchen!”

Second writer “Oh, and Diahann Carroll. We need some diversity to the Star Wars universe. And how about a musical act?”

First writer “Steely Dan?”

Second writer “No, I’m thinking Jefferson Starship. And we could have them perform as holographs! I can’t wait to see Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas singing together in our little sci fi masterpiece!!!”

First writer “Awesome! Start clearing off some space on the mantle for your Emmy!”

Really? There's absolutely no way you are being remotely serious right now.
I'm definitely not "trolling" (to use your choice of term), I'm just being honest.
If anyone is "trolling" here, it is obviously you.
(Why are you doing this? I do not know or even care.)

But still, way to completely ignore everything I actually wrote in my previous post... yet again.
So show me, where exactly did I even type something along the lines of "'this' is better than 'that'" in my last message?
Go ahead, quote me directly and specifically because I can't seem to locate it myself.
I would really like to see you accomplish proving this without resorting to altering my original choice of words in order to fit your own agenda.

I'm very sorry that you are incapable of accepting the fact that other people do not enjoy the same movies or series that you enjoy so dearly.

Clearly there is no point in trying to reason with your peculiar way of thinking, at least logically and politely because it is ultimately a futile endeavor.
May I suggest you go back to enjoying your beloved Di$ney Star Wars films and listening to your precious Taylor Swift albums?
I promise you that I will forever remain quite content with watching gory Italian horror films and listening to noisy Darkthrone albums instead.

In regards to your "full of it" and "has got to be trolling" remarks, all that I'm left with to say to you is simply:

This mindset is so incredibly silly. I've had 2 discs fail recently. Both printed discs. No bd-r's fail yet
