I need to stop reading these threads, because the technical jibber jabber is making people concerned about things where they need not be concerned at all.

To add to the film tech geekiness, here's a detailed chronology of Kodak's motion picture film stocks: https://www.kodak.com/en/motion/page...ology-of-film/

Interview with THE ABYSS cinemetographer Mikael Soloman. Interestingly, he points out the he shot it entirely with ASA 100 Kodak filmstock (I assume 5247, a very "beloved" Kodak filmstock among cinematographers from that era), which was very fine grained: https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/the-a...BX5BH1WtBZwJBg

I've had unnecessary debates with people far older, wiser, and more experienced than me that were the result of Kodak's predilection for using the same numbering system over and over again. In one case, I was talking about one set of 5247 vs. 5248, while he was thinking of a different set of 5247 and 5248. Thanks for muddying up the waters, Kodak!

Never get the complaints about these things. These are characters saying these things, the fact that they are awful is the point. Same with characters using the "N" word in films and people getting upset.

I have no qualms with being respectful to people of all types, but it is absurd if movie characters, who are supposed to be mean, aren't allowed to tailor their insults to the character they're insulting. Nobody should respond to that sentiment with anything but mockery and derision. It's not a serious opinion.

Kodak also had two completely different 5293/7293 stocks. A 250 ASA emulsion in the early 1980s, then a later 200 ASA T-grain emulsion introduced. That later 5293/7293 200 ASA was very beloved by cinematographers. The earlier 250 ASA stock, not so much as far as I can tell.

Me, I don't think they're the worst, so.. I can deal with the weirdness. And some of them haven't gotten BDs ever..
Aliens has to look similar to the other films in the franchise, expect far less tinkering.

Did Stuckman just say the 4K doesn't come out until March 12? Along with True Lies and Aliens?

Well, I waited this long, I can wait another four months...

Geoff, do you remember the liner notes in The Abyss: SE Laserdisc box set? Where Cameron addressed an issue with frame jumps? The negative was cut to conform to the theatrical version, and so when re-inserting the deleted scenes, there'd be a tiny pop due to a missing frame. I really only ever noticed one of these, at the end of the film with footage re-inserted in a take of the crew. It was a tiny thing, but noticeable. I figure with today's tools they can fix these, just don't know if Cameron and company have taken the time and expense to do so.

The physical release will surely have redemption codes, and I have every intention of picking up The Abyss on 4K disc, so, I'll wait.

Is this in regards to Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio's character of Lindsey being called the B word at times? if so, it's just another example in a long line of people being upset over the strangest things and they usually don't have a good reason to explain why that is exactly.
