Default On Her Majesty's Secret Service appreciation

I'm wondering how many Bond fans love this film?

While Lazenby was no Connery, I felt in time he could have made a fine James Bond. He certainly was physically right for the role. While I won't say he was the greatest actor, I felt he did a credible job in the role.

As for the film itself, it's always been on of my favorite Bond's. Diana Rigg and Telly Savalas were great as Tracy and Blofeld. The locations were stunningly beautiful and the film features John Barry's greatest score!

So for fans of the film, i'd like your thoughts?

It's actualy one of my favorite Bond movie. I tought that Lazenby did a great job as Bond when you consider he came right after Connery who had set the role pretty high. The story is also very good, action is right there.

What does throw off a lot of fans is maybe the love story.

When I rate my top 5 Bond movies, it's in second place

1. Goldfinger
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3. For Your Eyes Only
4. The Living Daylight
5. You Only Live Twice

I like OHMSS alot. It is one of the best Bond films. I just dislike the crap editing but aside from that it is great. Goldeneye is still my fave though.

Speaking of editing, it was interesting to see it cut in the style of Peter Hunt without Peter Hunt. I believe John Glen did the editing on this one.

Probably some of the best action sequences of the series.

Like all Bond films, I like this one. Not at the top of my list but nowhere near the bottom either.

Easily one of the best Bonds -- it was stripped down, largely gadget free, and Bond actually had to be a spy (learning tons of inside information to infiltrate an organization). The ending is heartbreaking, making it one of the few Bond films with an emotional undertow (I'm convinced the makers of Casino Royale looked at OHMSS for inspiration).

Great Bond film, and Lazenby, while stiff, showed great potential.

Lazen-who? I'm sorry, I didn't even notice it was a different Bond... I was too busy staring longingly at Diana Rigg.

Although Glen is credited as editor, Hunt had a major influence in the cutting of the film and I found it funny when Quantum came out everyone complained about the quick cutting. Hunt and Glen doing the same things 40 years ago.

Anyway, the movie is one of the best of the franchise and one of the most true to Fleming. I, unlike others, are glad that Connery wasn't in this one. His Bond, I couldn't see falling in love. Connery's Bond was too two-dimensional. Lazenby brought a vulnerability to the character that was necessary for this adventure.

I can't say that "OHMSS" is my favorite at all. But I do like the fact that it tried to be different. The editing is a bit crazy, but I think it made it edgier. George Lazenby is my least favorite Bond actor; not that he's necessarily terrible, but compared to all the other actors, I think he's the weakest (and I can't get over his heavy voice). So for me, this movie is average, more or less.

While I have nothing majorly against George....I am glad he didn't do anymore since we got my fave Bond quicker (after Diamonds are Forever of course). Moore is tied with Brosnan as the best Bond.

Love this one! Absolutely, a criminally overlooked chapter in the series.

Its been a million years since I have seen this one. Probably since I was in JR High. My fave bond was Roger Moore though since that was who I grew up watching. I do like the new direction with Daniel Craig though.

Yeah I grew up watching Moore as well....and at one time thought he was the best. But then something happended when I was about 21 years old and saw Connery and the first 5 films.....I finally understood what my dad was saying all along. There was no other Bond but Connery and that still holds true to this day.

Found this thread searching for any news on a Blu-ray.

I would say this is in my top 5 bonds, probably at position 5.

The story is superb and Lazenby is great too.

Like posted above for years I avoided this one as an oddity. I had saw every bond film repeatedly bar this one I never watched once.

The reason why I avoided it was the start with the crazy editing and the scene in the car driving to the mafia boss where Lazenby was making very poor jokes. Those two made me repeatedly turn it off.

On the time I actually watched it and was blown away. And I would rate Lazenby considerably higher than Roger Moore (who destroyed the series with Moonraker).

Lazenby should have done Diamonds are forever and definitely Live and Let Die.

Roger Moores movies are generally considered very weak bonds. Man with the Golden Gun and Moonraker are two considered as the weakest bond movies by far. To camp and just boring.

Diamonds are forever was just Connery bored stiff and thus it had no spark.

None of this would have happened at Lazenby stuck with it.

This is one of my favorite Bonds, but it gets really boring after Bond shows up at Piz Gloria...until the ski chase that is.

One of the best films in the series behind the first 3 Connerys and The Spy Who Loved Me and perhaps For Your Eyes Only.

Probably the best and most exciting soundtrack in the whole series.

Should make a great bluray presentation.

I'll take GL over all of Brozzer's and Rog's put together, I love OHMSS and have it has my joint fav with Royale.

Connery would have never worked as this Bond this far into his tennure plus he looked so bored in YOLT and DAF is utter shite!

It's now a cliche among Majesty fans to say what DAF could have been if GL had stuck around with Hunt staying on but it does make you wonder, How anyone can criticise Laz when Connery's last 2 efforts were just embarrassing, was this really the same actor that strut like a panther and ozzed deadly cool in both DN & FRWL?

Plus Barry's score is not only the best Bond scores it's quite possibly one of the best film scores period, no quite said excitement quite dear old departed John B he was the guvnor.

Savalas was the best Blofeld and Rigg is the best Bond girl, probably the best script and the most exciting Bond film, the action is class and the location work is top notch, to think we got that hack Hamilton back and the americanised trash that was Forever next.

Bond never discovered it's mojo again till Dalton arrived and it only really came to matching Bond 6 when Craig arrived. Yeah OHMSS is a cracker and is only now getting it's due but I always loved it!
