I’ve tried searching this thread but haven’t had any luck finding an answer, maybe someone can give me some help.
I have my player hooked up to a Denon 3600 which outputs to an Epson 5050ub. Im only able to hear audio when my projector is turned on. When the projector is off, no sound comes out of my speakers. I’d like to be able to listen to CDs without having to turn on the projector. Is there a setting I’m missing somewhere, whether it’s a setting in the player, my receiver, or projector? I’ve been stumped. |

Offhand you can run into issues when you're using three devices, with me if my AVR is in standby it cuts the audio to the TV when I switch on my player. So I need the AVR to be unplugged or the outlet turned off. If you Epson is in standby, cutting it's power may also help. |

Alternatively, this is exactly the kind of thing the Spears & Munsil UHD benchmark disc is for (it has content mastered at various nits, up to 10k,for you to test against). https://www.biaslighting.com/product...620711.265e2a6 |

Yes, set it to Super High Luminance LCD which is the setting for 1500 nits. Any discs rated at higher than that will be handled very well by the player. Discs rated at 1500 or less won't have an effect even if the optimizer is on...so you just leave it on all the time.

Okay I had a major breakthrough with this player, I realized I hate the upscaling. My TV clearly has better upscaling after using this player for a couple weeks in 4k mode 24/7. I can only explain what I see, but it has a weird habit of making credit opticals on certain 1080p discs look a bit pixelated, or something. All my settings are correct so I have no other explanation for it. Once I started noticing it I downgraded the player to 1080p and tested the same discs with my LG upscaling and smooth as butter. The discs I noticed it on were some VinSyn discs like Alien From LA and Surf II. I'm on a LG G2 btw. I don't mind manually flipping the player to 1080p, but it's a little funny to me I'm still doing something similar to flipping the Sony into Dolby Vision by hand.

I've decided to buy this player as a replacement for my Sony UBP-X700.
It has too many skipping problems with triple layer UHD's and changing the settings doesn't help. The Panasonic seems to handle that better. I'll still keep the Sony for my region A BD's because that one is region free. |

Make sure on the TV gradation preferred is ON for HDR10. Make sure gradation preferred is OFF when playing Dolby Vision content. There's more to set in the player. In the advanced area, these settings would be correct for your TV... https://www.google.com/search?sca_es...OWWrAtndkCXanM (The bigger image on the right.) |

I leave it off unless the disc needs it. GeoffD was explaining it once way back that it creates a new curve (or something) and that it's more optimal if the TV gets the original curve and does its thing, because if it has to curve it again after the Panny touched it you're doing it twice essentially, and the Panasonic one isn't exact to what the TV needs it could be slightly under. That's my understanding of it anyway even if I'm getting the technical bits wrong, less hands in the cookie jar is how I usually set things up. So far I only use the HDR thingie mcjig for Heat.

I do have that Mummy disc but haven't watched it since I got this player, yes I think the player is creating its own HDR curve to send to the TV in some situations where it thinks the max brightness is beyond your screen, however it's just a guess from your settings it can't actually communicate information from your TV. When it's off the TV is getting the original curve and the screen will do its thing. For me it comes down to the TV knows what it needs better than the Panny does, so unless you have a bigger problem that the Panny needs to step in for (a projector for example) it's best to have it stay neutral and send the pure signal. I don't think Mummy 1999 is a lightcannon disc but it's pretty bright I had no issues with it.
