I remember when Arrow submitted Inferno to the BBFC, the scene near the end where Mark goes beneath the floorboards and witnesses a cat eating a mouse was originally gonna be cut. Enough people online raised a stink about it, though, and contacted the BBFC that they reconsidered and the film was passed uncut.

There a big difference
A cat eating a mouse is something that often happens naturally regardless of whether or not it had been filmed.

Puttting a rat into a container with oxygenated breathing fluid on purpose and causing distress is not something that would happen naturally

Talk about The Abuse. Do you think everyone you encounter online is an American? Other people can criticize your country too, you know, not that I even did. Makes you look silly if you acuse everyone of being from the USA. You have no idea where most of us are from on this forum. I lived overseas for 10 years and have dual citizenship, I also lived in your UK as well for several years.

Roosters also like to kill each other… dogs attack other dogs… does it change things if it’s a setup?

Yes, if you take animals and put them somewhere where they're more than likely to fight and point a camera at them for the purpose of entertainment it's illegal.

What, England? Nah. F**king place. It's a dump. Don't make me laugh. Grey, grimy, sooty. What a s**t hole. What a toilet. Every c**t with a long face shuffling about, moaning, all worried about rats breathing oxygenated fluid. No thanks, not for me.

They say, "What's it like, then? The Abyss."
And I'll say, "It's wet. Wet. Oh, it's f***in' wet". Too wet? Not for me. I love it.

I would have been ok with a "cut" version. It's the same version I already own on dvd.
It's no problem though, I'll just import it.

Why are you making this about you?

When a poster makes a remark like "why WE dumped your tea into a harbour" I naturally assume he or she is an American.

Jeff Daniels was a monster for killing all those spiders on camera, Arachnophobia banned from Earth, I love spiders and I would never step on one

This is bullshit. All because of a stupid rat that wasn't even hurt. I really hate the BBFC.

Hopefully, we won't dive deeper into Brits getting upset. I'm Scottish and w/ Remy seemingly pulling the strings of the Abyss, the thread has already taken on water.

Might as well double up on this post:

Y'all know it's nothing to do with the BBFC, right? I mean, I'm not a fan after growing up in the shadow of Ferman but I've been importing movies for a quarter of a century to get around their shenanigans so I don't get all hot and bovvered about it, but there's an actual law that this movie is contravening, so therefore it must still be cut.

If Cameron doesn't want to acquiesce to a cut version then the responsibility ultimately lies with him. Once upon a time he personally recut True Lies to get a 15 certificate for it, and with today's tech I'm sure they could've zoomed and finagled that scene in The Abuse a lot betterer than they did on the old cut version, but El Cameroon doesn't want to know.

It's really a non-issue when you think about it. It's not like yesteryear when you had to find/buy something hidden behind the counter at the local video shop.

But the rat(s) didn't have any say in the matter, and as it is perceived to be in some distress then it is regarded as animal cruelty according to the laws of this crazy old country. Remember, this isn't even a BBFC thing, this is an actual UK law that's been in place since 19-fookin-37.

Ironically though you can show an actual live animal getting killed as long as the kill is clean and kick! The law in question states that the "cruel infliction of pain or terror on any animal or the cruel goading of any animal to fury" is prohibited in motion pictures, so a swift kill like the beast in Apocalypse Now or the snake in Friday 13th does technically circumvent that description because no pain/suffering/terror was caused. Just boom, out go the lights. But trip a horsey on-screen and that'll get snipped pretty darned quick.

Re: A Chocolate Orange, Kubrick himself requested that Warners withdraw it, it had nothing to do with the BBFC or any legislation or whatever.

Literally got nothing to do with the BBFC. So, no.

As folks have said: True Lies was BBFC censored. But all the cuts were waived well over a decade ago so saying anything else is just shit-stirring for the sake of it. You'll fit right in, stranger!
Waved but not resubmitted for the last 13 years.
The dvd has a certificate that is cut 15, the streaming is a 15 uncut.
What certificate and cut status are the BD and the UHD?.
Swearing to prove a point is how you win, then I will not fit in, and you are someone who is leaniant with DNR and even motion smoothing, I won't be drinking your cool-aid stranger.

There is 0 direct citation that James Cameron didnt want it cut.
