Too bad they will never release the film, so I'll probably be complaining for the rest of my life. Either way, happy early New Year's everyone. Hopefully Criterion gives us some new HD to Japanese films in 2024.
More Kurosawa, Welles and vintage WB would go a long way in shutting me up.

Happy New Year, Duke and to everyone else who loves physical media!

As a tribute for all Criterion Collectors, here's a reminder of the comic sketches that would spark such great debates on New Years Days past:

Plus they already put out the definitive set.
I know that but it would be cool if they did it.

My Criterion Wishlist has been the same for a few years now :

Catch-22
Carnal Knowledge
The Defiant Ones
West Side Story (1961) in 4K
Barry Lyndon in 4K

And three films that I'm surprised Warner Archives hasn't put out, and now I suspect Criterion is sitting on them:

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
America America
Splendor in the Grass

My 2024 Criterions wants are rereleases in 4K UHD:
Eraserhead
Blue Velvet

and for them to put out a 4K UHD of Wild At Heart, but I don't know anything about who owns what for it.

My only hope for 2024 is a 4K UHD of Chinatown for its 50th Anniversary. Whether Criterion releases it or not, a 4K of this is long overdue. I am very well aware of the fact that a 4K restoration of this film exists (And has been screened several times and is on streaming).

Part of me thinks that Criterion recently acquired the rights to Apocalypse Now.

The film magically disappeared from being purchasable on all streaming services the other night. And now it seems that the physical 4K is no longer available for purchase from any of the big retailers.

Either Lionsgate is relisting/reissuing everything or another studio has access to the film. Something smells fishy though.

My guess is that either A24 or Neon will get it, though it would be cool to have Apocalypse Now as a Janus Films title.
