If one loves Tangled Ever After, keep the Diamond Edition of Cinderella. It is the only one with lossless 7.1 Surround Sound, where as the Pixar Shorts compilation only features 5.1.

Imagine a beginner actor. The hardest thing an acting student does is learn to just "be". He's on stage, everyone is looking at him. He becomes self-aware, is insecure he's being stared at. He doesn't know what to do with his hands. He's not in the moment. He feels like he should be doing something. He's being judged. He starts over-acting. Gestures too big. Emotes unnaturally, starts playing his part to the back of a theater in another county.

Animators are actors, too. The economy of movement isn't a difficult concept. Nothing in nature moves unless it has to, action motivated by an outside force (the wind blows, a dog barks, the train is pulling away from the station) or an interior force (hunger, internal emotions, internal thoughts, excitement, exhaustion).

Beginning animators struggle with the same insecurities as beginning actors. If the character isn't moving, it's not "alive", it should be doing something. The economy of motion is forgotten, internal and external reactions fall to the insecure need to be doing something.

Bluth's work is like that. Characters in constant busy motion, mugging, exaggerated, too much emphasis on follow-through, characters can't keep their tongues in their mouths, they don't just walk, they bounce...

Go watch the "zoo scene" in The Rescuers, animated by Don Bluth. Over-acting, hasn't learned the economy of motion. Overly broad. And that damn tongue. It's Bluth's calling card, his "tell".

As for Anastasia, if you ever need to show someone what "rotoscoping" is (tracing live action photostats), here you go...

I couldn’t help but remember this discussion after a recent tweet about the animation on Wish, which I will quote and link below.

"Animation veteran Frans Vischer's (Cats Don't Dance, Mickey's Christmas Carol, Roger Rabbit) take on Wish. Important to see an animator pinpoint the exact problems with the animation itself, since the regular viewer might not know how to get across those specific critiques."

Thanks for sharing that, Mat. Much appreciated. Having not seen Wish, I can't comment on the particular work in the film. But the note stands as a general lesson...nothing in nature moves unless it is motivated to do so by interior or exterior forces. It's the hardest thing for beginning actors to learn. The same holds true for animators, but this assumes there aren't notes from higher-ups concerned about modern attention spans, in which case, the animators may not be the problem. Animators have bad directors and producers, too, no different than live action directors and producers.

Is there any big difference in how the two tracks sound? Have you compared?

The first classic Disney animated feature since 2004 on physical that isn't some kind of crime against humanity?

Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros on Blu? Dumbo? Ichabod and Mr. Toad/Fun and Fancy Free/The Reluctant Dragon? I remember our grousing about The Rescuers Down Under being sourced from an IP instead of a direct-to-digital port, but at least the color timing was fixed (Cody's shoes no longer olive green as seen on the DVD) and while Roger Rabbit has been revised since its very first home video release (Michael Eisner's home phone number was on a bathroom wall in ToonTown in the original theatrical presentations, scrubbed for home video going back to the first VHS and laser iterations), people have been fairly impressed by the 4K, alterations and all.

ASTOUNDINGLY! INSANE! GIGANTIC!

Ease down, Ripley. Ease down...

He is talking more about the main animated features. He is curious about Who Framed Roger Rabbit and The Nightmare Before Christmas in 4K, but hasn't seen them yet. About the package films, I don’t think he knows much about most of them, except when he talked about the censorship on Melody Time even in the DMC blu-ray. I think it was Melody Time, but I'm not sure if I remember correctly.

It was Make Mine Music that was censored.
Pretty sure Melody Time was uncut.

So it says “there sadly seems to have been some grain management..”. So we are not supposed to manage the grain at all?

Helps though if he could spell heroine and not the drug.

Any other Disney animated movies getting the 4k treatment?

https://youtube.com/shorts/iOtVZ_D9S..._oD_t6ylBu66EI

Disney has released pretty much everything that was a best seller on VHS.

I would assume only if Snow White and Cinderella met sales expectations. The only other issue is how many of these animated classics have 4k restorations ready to go.
