War of the Worlds being very good is a stretch but I was certainly entertained. The hate it got was over the top. The original has a horrible deus ex machina ending (obviously from the book) so at least this movie tried new things.

War of the Worlds and War World Z are both terrible.

The Spielberg version? I thought that was mostly thought of as great with a crap ending?

This is why, despite my username, I cannot in good conscience endorse the new movie about Willy Wonka's backstory. The only way I'm ever going to watch it is if you can re-insert Gene Wilder via CGI and/or AI much like how they did with Christopher Plummer replacing Kevin Spacey over accusations against him of the same nature that have now been proven to be a lie in his case.

I don't hate it but I can't think of a good thing to say about it except the ferry scene and offscreen plane crash that Tom witnesses.

Paycheck (2003) is a good cyber thriller. Overlooked. John Woo's American films get shit on a lot, but they shouldn't.

The problem with Paycheck was the casting of Ben Affleck.

In other words the problem with Paycheck is that Ben Affleck got one for it?

Haha.

He had no chemistry with Uma.
Also a genius and a martial artist?

Pretty funny that Matt Damon turned it down.

ehhhh... The former is a pretty great movie with a couple faults, the latter is a disappointment with an especially lame wrap up..... but neither are terrible.

I'm going to double down on this since it is the unpopular opinion thread. I think Ben is great in it.

I recently read that Ben Affleck gave Tom Clancy's favorite portrayal as Jack Ryan. My favorite is Alec Baldwin.

Paycheck is one of my favorite Ben Affleck movies. He did a very good job, and I liked his on-screen relationship with Uma Thurman too. Plus, Aaron Eckhart was a phenomenal villain.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a completely good film. People are too desensitized by year after year of blockbuster with bigger budgets and a ton of vfx.

For some reason I always forget that Arsenic is a Capra movie, although it explains why I like it so much. Personally I'd put it higher (like 4 after Wonderful Life, Smith and One Night), but any appreciation of the guy is good by me

Affleck is great at playing Affleck in any variety of situations, unfortunately he's completely incapable of playing anything else.

I liked him as both Batman and Daredevil, especially the director's cut of the latter film.
